Ohemaa was born in Boston on April 6th to Rene and Nana. As the second child in her family, she was always a bit different – a quiet kid who loved reading nonfiction and cared deeply about making the world better. In high school, Ohemaa went through a rebellious phase that her parents were not pleased about. Her career test said she'd make an amazing activist, and she was more interested in exploring the world than sitting in a classroom. Little did she know, college would change everything. Mount Holyoke College was where Ohemaa started to truly find herself. The school's supportive environment helped her discover her passion for human rights and public health. She fell in love with learning and decided to make a real difference in the world. She completed an MPH and PhD in public health, focusing on global mental health, and is completing a Master of Social Work. Now, Ohemaa is an Assistant Professor at Columbia University and consults for different non-profits, trying to make the world a better place. Ohemaa lives in Harlem with her fiancé Zi, their pets Zoe and Ziggy, and she's lucky enough to live right above her sister, brother-in-law, and their adorable nephew. Her life is full of love, purpose, and exciting opportunities. From a curious child to a dedicated professional, Ohemaa has always been on a mission to understand and improve the world around her.
Bride
Born in Barbados to David and Andrea, Zi Donnya grew up in a musical household. Her father, a popular calypsonian, used music to share stories about politics and social issues. As the eldest of three children, Zi was especially close to her father, absorbing his passion for politics, social justice and storytelling. At Queen's College, Zi was the class clown who always had a deeper message. In university, she ran for the student government and won student representative of humanities and education faculty. Her outspoken nature led her to become a celebrated LGBTQ advocate in Barbados, even receiving an award from Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. After non-profit work, Zi jumped into tech and entrepreneurship. Her first venture selling alumni t-shirts at 18 didn't go as planned – overwhelming sales and no distribution strategy meant the business struggled. But this didn't dim her entrepreneurial spirit. Today, Zi is the founder of Pink Coconuts, an LGBTQ-friendly travel company and hospitality training platform. Inspired by artists like Burna Boy and Chronixx, she continues to tell powerful stories. With an MBA and product management certification, Zi remains a creative force breaking barriers and creating change.
