Maid of Honor
Despite her humble beginning on the mean streets of Brownsville, Brooklyn, Laura, "The Wookiee" Gray was always destined for greatness. Starting her career at only 12 years old as an apprentice shoemaker, Laura grew her neighborhood influence by operating a high stakes pinochle ring in the basement of the local cobbler- where she established herself as Brooklyn's most volatile and ruthless card shark. In addition to being a violent, notorious, mobster and truly fantastic sister, The Wookiee also enjoys crocheting, reading, puzzles, and her cat, Odin.
Best Man
Aren’t brothers the best? The Mercado boys have quite a bit in common- the same awkward laugh, the same work ethic, and the same glorious hair. They’re also huge nerds. Mando is the soccer player of the family and a comic book collector, Ambro has a lifetime commitment to Vans and “that’s what she said” jokes. Obviously, Victor’s brothers hold a special place in his heart, and in Sarah’s. She’s gotten to know them pretty well, since the brothers have all been her coworkers at some point. Turns out, Mando is pretty good in a restaurant, but neither of the younger brothers can cut it with Ambro in construction. P.S. special love to the oldest Mercado, who got me through my first year of my first big girl job. You’ve been a great friend and I’m lucky to have you as my brother in law. -S
Bridesmaid
Lena and Sarah left their freshman year Gettysburg College as inseparable best friends, taking with them absolutely no educational knowledge whatsoever. Lena is now a nurse, wife, and mom, but her wine fueled kitchen dance parties are as epic as ever.
Bridesmaid
Looking for a great book series, podcast or tv show? Need tips on how to sooth a screaming infant? Wondering where to get the best deals on anything, or how to hide a body? Better Call Gina. Gina is the adultier adult, for me, and for anyone who’s lucky enough to have her as a friend. Every once in a while she shrugs and suggests a mango martini- which means I’ve probably run out her expertise, but somehow not her patience. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to pay Gina back for all of her endless counseling, so to show her how much I love her I made her be a bridesmaid- since a husband, 3 kids, and my shenanigans aren’t enough responsibility already ; ).
Bridesmaid
Julie is by far the most mature of all the bridesmaids and has been spending the months leading up to the wedding working on nailing 6th grade, some sweet skateboard moves, and keeping all adult shenanigans in check. She is the wedding’s official TikTok consultant.
Groomsman and Bridesmaid
While Melvin and Victor have spent the last few years working together, having late night drinks together, constantly texting each other, giggling at all hours of the night, and building a- not entirely unconcerning- bromance for the ages, Sarah found a true friend in Lily. Lil and Mel got engaged around the same time as us, married within a few months as well, and are doing their post COVID big wedding in July. We’re very lucky to have such big hearted, open, and welcoming friends, and so excited for the next chapter of their lives to be starting right along with ours.
Groomsman
Victor and Mario met as kids playing soccer in the parking lot behind their apartment building and have been friends ever since. When I asked what Victor wanted to say about Mario, Victor said, “I don’t know, Mario’s my best friend, he’s always had my back, I don’t know anyone more loyal.” All that mushiness aside, Mario will also make the one hell of a tequila recommendation if you ask him
Groomsman
As one of Ambrocio’s closest high school friends, Washington spent most of his teenage years trying to get Victor to leave them alone. It might have taken a decade, but Victor eventually wore him down. Washo (or Whitey, depending on who you’re talking to) is now Isaac’s godfather and hangs out with Victor, willingly, all the time. We’re not sure if this is proof that Victor got cooler or that Washo’s standards have diminished, but we’re happy either way.
Groomsman
Victor and Carlos bonded in their 3rd grade class and found out they lived only a block away from each other. Over their 20 years of friendship, Carlos, aka Matador, has always been the person Victor turns to to talk through a problem he’s having. While he’s the most reserved groomsman, he also gives the best advice, and has the best sneakers.
