Sarah knew Drew through the Belmont University Pep Band (he was the grad assistant for her band class, shh). They somehow (through friends of friends) started playing Words with Friends over Winter break in 2011-2012. She found the courage to ask him out over chat on the Words with Friends app by placing a bet: she wagered that if she won, they would "finally" go out for coffee. His response was, "Okay - If I win, we'll make it tea." As soon as school resumed that January, they went to Fido for their very first date.

On New Year's Eve, Sarah and Drew had reservations at Etc. in Nashville, and headed downtown after dinner for the fireworks. They met up with his parents and walked halfway up the Pedestrian Bridge so that they could all see the fireworks happening across town. Sarah had absolutely no idea this would be happening - at midnight, right as the fireworks started going off, Drew slipped behind her and tapped on her shoulder. Sarah turned around and saw her best friend on his knee, and he said, "Sarah, will you marry me?" She, um, said yes...obviously!
