All events will take place at Camp Joslin, 150 Richardson Corner Rd, Charlton, MA 01507.
Camp Joslin is a summer camp that's part of the Barton Center for Diabetes Education. During the summers, the camp hosts children from all around the country to educate them on how to handle the rigors of diabetes. In the off season, the Barton Center opens its facilities like Camp Joslin to events and weddings like ours. They have a wonderful mission and we're excited to have our wedding at such a unique place!
Good catch! The Barton Center has two different camps five minutes apart from one another. One is in Oxford, the other is in Charlton. When we heard the Charlton location would have its renovations finished in time, we decided to host at that location instead.
Camp Joslin is close to the MA-CT border. The closest city is Worcester (about 20 minutes to the northeast), but small towns nearby include Sturbridge and Oxford. The venue is about one hour from both Boston and Providence, 50 minutes from Hartford, and three hours from NYC.
Please see our Where to Stay page above.
FUN. But seriously, the Field Day is a chance for guests to use everything wonderful at Camp Joslin. There's a huge lake and dock, mini golf, wiffle ball fields, basketball and tennis courts, and we'll have horseshoes, frisbee golf, and more. There will be shade, water, drinks, sunscreen, bug repellant and towels as well.
Yes. We'll have a casual lunch for people to eat while sitting inside or outside. To help us plan, make sure to select this option in your RSVP if you know you'll be attending.
We won't be offended at all. If you can only join us for our ceremony and reception, that's totally fine. If you can join us for some or all of the Field Day, all the better.
Yes. Though guests are welcome to stay outside as long as they'd like, we're setting aside 2:30pm - 5pm as time for people to return to where they're staying, get changed and reset, and then return for our ceremony.
Wear sneakers and any clothing you would be comfortable in playing horseshoes or frisbee by the lake. Very casual. Bring a bathing suit of course if you'd like to swim. We'll have towels and everything else necessary (even a lifeguard!)
Of course! We envision the event as semi-formal, which means suits, ties, jackets, or dresses. Given the setting, we don't envision anything much more formal than that, so no need for black tie or tuxedos.
The ceremony will begin at 5pm. Please arrive 15-20 minutes early.
There is plenty of parking at Camp Joslin. Whether you arrive early for Field Day or are just arriving for the ceremony and reception, you'll see plenty of signage indicating where to park. Though the camp is sprawling and open to be explored, the most important events will take place within a five minute walk of where you'll park.
We want to make guests as comfortable as possible. Many of the pathways around the camp are paved. There are also grassy sections. We are currently planning ways to make sure any guests with mobility challenges will be able to get around comfortably and safely.
Yes. We'll have a breakfast bar available on Saturday morning for cabin guests, and Sunday morning for everyone.
