The first time Caitlin ever laid eyes on Mike, her and her roommates were romping in the mud pit outside their dorm after a rain storm. A kid walked past in the distance unironically wearing an umbrella hat. Someone snapped a pic and only later were they informed, "Oh that's Mike O'Connell. First year baseball player" Someone on the baseball team tagged him in the picture on facebook, and they never interacted.

Finals had finished, everyone had moved out for the summer. Caitlin was storing her mini fridge in a friend's apartment in The Yellows over break. Mike happened to be living in that same apartment for the summer. Anyone who has been to The Yellows will fondly remember the back stairs. Caitlin's Aunt Tina and mom refused to carry the fridge up those stairs, and so Aunt Tina recruited the nearest body to help, that would be Mike. Mike dutifully climbed into the back of the van and they silently drove back to Caitlin's apartment for the fridge. There might've been an awkward smile exchanged as they drove. The fridge got carried up those stairs, a quick thanks, and they got on with their lives.

It was Pi Beta Pi's semi formal. Caitlin brought Mike's teammate as a date, Mike came with Caitlin's sorority Little. They hung out being goofy for the camera for a couple hours, then Caitlin left the party early. It's cool, they met up at the after party. (Remember that apartment in The Yellows?) Talked all night and have been inseparable every since.
