How We Met

November 29, 2020

We met in a classically millennial way - on a dating app. We both were ready to give up until we matched and started such an easy, comfortable, and awesome conversation. We weren't in the same city or even state yet, so for about 3 weeks we chatted over text and eventually had a Facetime date. Once we were both in the Portland area, we set up a date immediately.

Our First Date

December 23, 2020

We were so eager to meet in person. Haley had moved to Portland just 5 days before our first date. Neither of us knew the area of SE Portland so Sean googled places to go and we ended up going to a restaurant nearby, Matador. It was in walking distance from where Haley was living so Sean parked outside the house and we decided to walk to the restaurant. It was freezing and because of COVID we had to sit outside covered by a tent with heaters. We grabbed a couple of drinks but we were too nervous to eat. We talked about anything and everything - our families, our careers, our friends, music, hobbies, and more. When the restaurant was closing up, we weren't ready for the night to end, so we decided to walk around the neighborhood a bit longer to continue our conversation. We both knew there was something special between us.

Our Engagement

November 8, 2021

Haley had a ticket for the Harry Styles concert in Portland since August 2020, well before moving here. As we were dating Sean began listening and enjoying his music. Haley decided she didn't want to go to the concert alone anymore. She had one General Admission ticket and wanted to surprise Sean by getting a second one, instead of selling the GA ticket to get two cheaper ones. It felt like it would be a special memory to have that experience, and it definitely was. We started the night by going to Dr. Jack's outside the Moda Center for drinks and pizza before we got in line to go inside. We of course got in the wrong line and waited quite a while and then had to hunt down where to get our GA wristbands. Nerves started to set in when we got down to the floor - Haley being nervous about seeing her favorite artist and Sean being nervous about the surprise he was hiding. Haley had joked about other people getting engaged at Harry's concerts and patted Sean down as a joke and somehow didn't find the ring in his pocket. When Harry started his set it was surreal and Sean had planned which song he was going to propose during. He didn't realize though that the song would be the second song of the night! Sean tapped Haley on the shoulder during "Adore You" and asked the question in the middle of the sea of people. The person behind Sean's mouth dropped when it happened. We both blacked out in that moment, Sean hardly remembers what he said and Haley just remembers grabbing him to stand up after saying yes. We were both so happy and the rest of the concert was amazing. When it was over we started walking home and decided to walk the whole way instead of calling an Uber. We both kept saying "Oh my god!" and recounting how it happened. It started raining during the walk home, which made it feel even more special.
