Question

Do I need a visa to visit Portugal?

Answer

Nope. Not for short term stays. U.S. citizens can stay up to 90 days visa-free in Portugal.

Question

What do we do about Transportation?

Answer

Uber is available throughout Portugal, but we recommend downloading BOLT as a more affordable alternative for getting around Europe.

Question

What’s the best airport and how do I get into the city?

Answer

You'll want to fly into Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS). Once you arrive, Uber and Bolt are the most convenient ways to get around and the airport is really close to the old city.

Question

What if I don't speak Portuguese?

Answer

Don't worry, you'll find that most of the people in Portugal speak English and are super hospitable. Signs and menus are in English so, you shouldn't have any issues with communicating or getting around, but we do recommend learning at least how to greet and thank people in Portuguese.

Question

What will the weather be like in late November?

Answer

November is typically Portugal's rainy season, and the weather could be slightly unpredictable, but expect temperatures ranging from 55–70°F (13–21°C). Definitely wear layers or bring a jacket in the evenings because it can get cooler at night.

Question

Tipping Culture?

Answer

Tipping in Portugal is minimal and always appreciated, but not expected. Generally, 7–10% is considered sufficient for good service.

Question

Curious about walking around Lisbon?

Answer

Lisbon is a famously hilly city, and its cobblestone streets can get slippery when it rains. Be sure to pack sturdy, comfortable shoes and get ready for some walking adventures!

Question

Thinking about a day trip? Don’t miss Sintra.

Answer

Just a 45-minute Uber or Bolt ride from Lisbon, Sintra feels like stepping into a fairytale. You can wander through stunning castles, colorful palaces, and lush gardens all in one place. See THINGS TO DO tab for more information If walking uphill isn’t your thing, we recommend exploring Sintra by tuk-tuk —a fun and easy way to get around while taking in the views.
