We're getting married!

Shawn and Nyla first crossed paths on November 6th, 2019 at Fool’s Errand on Divisadero Street in San Francisco. After a few days of chatting on Hinge, they decided to meet up in person. Shawn showed up rocking a very noticeable mustache, while Nyla was in the middle of applying to medical schools all over the country. Quirky first impressions aside, they clicked right away and kept seeing each other. Not long after, Shawn bought an electric bike—lovingly named “Greta”—and the two of them started exploring the city together. San Francisco quickly became their playground. When the pandemic hit, they decided to quarantine together for four weeks straight, which turned out to be a crash course in togetherness that only brought them closer. When Nyla got into medical school in Michigan, Shawn packed up and moved to the Midwest too. That first year, they welcomed their cat, Nopa, who instantly became part of the family. Over the next four years, they built a life between Chicago and Detroit—spending summers on Lake Michigan, catching concerts in the park, and sharing music with friends. In 2024, when Nyla matched at UC San Diego for residency, they were excited to head back to California. Since then, life in San Diego has been all about learning to surf, playing music together, and soaking up the sunshine. Along the way, Shawn has grown into a dedicated dentist, while Nyla has been tackling the challenges of medical training. From their first date on Divisadero Street to their home in San Diego, Shawn and Nyla’s story has been full of adventure, laughter, and love—and now they can’t wait to start this next chapter together.
