Question

COVID Precautions

Answer

In light of COVID-19, we wanted to check in and let you know your health and safety are important to us. Due to the vulnerability of some of our guests, we are asking if you have not been vaccinated (unless ineligible or a child), to attend virtually. Please wear masks and know you will not be the only one. The City of San Leandro requires them in all of their parks and facilities. We want everyone to feel comfortable so we will also be spacing family members with their own clan. There are 21 tables so we should have plenty of room. Anti-virus hand wipes and sanitizer will be available. We will also be wiping tables down and have extra masks.

Question

Wedding Venue- San Leandro Marina

Answer

The wedding will be held outdoors with plenty of shade. Should it rain, we will have extra umbrellas and we hope you'll stay and play in the muddy puddles. There is wheelchair accessible parking near the shelter and a couple ways to get to the shelter with a SHORT walk. There are bathrooms across from the playground.

Question

What Are We Eating?

Answer

We are happy to be catering with Everett and Jones and will be serving BBQ'd chicken, ribs, mac and cheese, salad, with tea and fruit punch. An ice cream truck will be there too for dessert! Learn about Everett and Jones here: https://eandjbbq.com/our-story/. They have such a cool history. And in recent news Dorothy King, owner of Everett and Jones, passed away. Question

What is the Baha'i Faith and What is the Ceremony?

Answer

Nurieh and I have been Baha'is since we were young. We have both taken different paths to understand our own relationship with God and the Faith. God and the Faith are a central part of our relationship and family. We are excited to grow stronger in the Faith together. Here is a link to a website that shares more about the principles of the Faith: https://www.bahai.org/ In terms of the ceremony, Nurieh and I had to get permission (consent) to get married from our living parents. Cool fact: we asked for consent 20+ years ago and didn't get it!! Consent is like a blessing and also helps to foster unity between family members. There are very few rituals in the Baha'i Faith and in the marriage ceremony, in addition to witnesses and consent, the couple must recite the Baha'i wedding vow, "We will all, verily, abide by the will of God."

Question

What Should We Wear?

Answer

Please wear whatever is comfortable to you. The couple and immediate family members will be a little more towards the formal side of things, but you MIGHT feel a little out of place if you wear cut offs instead of bermuda shorts.

Question

What time is the wedding?

Answer

Guest may arrive as early as 5pm. The ceremony will begin at 5:30pm. All events take place at PACIFIC TIME!

Question

How Accommodating is the Marina for A Person with a Disability or Other Concerns?

Answer

There is parking available directly behind the shelter for anyone using a Disabled Persons Parking Permit. A sidewalk can be used to get to the shelter or there is a hilly area behind the shelter. There is a concrete path to the bathrooms, which are also accessible. We will have a few folding chairs for the ceremony or for whoever needs them. The food will be served at picnic tables. We will have a microphone and a speaker. If you need to sit closer to hear please let us know. If you have covid concerns please also contact us! If anyone has questions or requests that will make the event more enjoyable to them, please contact Nuriéh: owlfeathers@gmail.com.
