Eight years ago, I met Andrew at a Florida State University KA fraternity party. The theme was KAddy Shack and Andrew came decked out as Bill Murray in full character wearing cargo pants, a cut off tee and a bucket hat. Now, those of you who know me may wonder how I found this so attractive. In lieu of blaming it on the MillerLite, his spirited look must have emphasized his Southern charm. His fraternity brother discretely put in a good word for me and introduced us. We immediately hit it off with our similar sense of humor and his appreciation of my spunkiness. We dated throughout college, then conquered long distance dating while I pursued my Masters in Speech Pathology at Florida State and Andrew started dental school at the Medical University of South Carolina. After my graduation, I joined him in Charleston where we made wonderful memories and met some of the most amazing people. The day after Andrew graduated from dental school, we flew to Italy to embark on a European vacation with my sister Alison and her boyfriend. This wasn’t just any vacation for Andrew because he was eagerly holding a very important and expensive item for the first few days. Andrew, who isn’t the best at hiding things, and myself, who finds out about every surprise, soon figured out that this vacation was going to be one for the books. On day four in the Amalfi Coast, Andrew still pulled off a beautiful proposal on a terraced cliff overlooking the umbrella-lined beaches of Positano. We spent the rest of the day making limoncellos, eating Italian pasta and soaking in the special moment. We now live in St. Petersburg Florida where Andrew is finishing his dental residency and I am working at a rehab hospital. Our sweet dog Riley and energetic puppy Marley keep us entertained daily. We are both happy to be back together in the sunshine state and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us as The Harpers!
