On November 6th, 9 years ago, Hunt posted on his Facebook wall "has added a new best friend to the collection...welcome Anna Leigh Milner" and we've been best friends ever since. We talked every now and then for the next 3 years, seeing each other now and then at sports events (our high schools were rivals) and then he came to Faith where I got to see him every day and we started talking more and more. During his senior year of high school, he had a service project with the PE coach during 7th period in the gym, and I had a class upstairs in the gym during the same time...I would go down to get ice out of the kitchen almost every day and I'd have trouble getting the key to open the door, so naturally he would come to my rescue.
During Thanksgiving break of 2013, we stayed up until 4 am almost every night texting about everything under the sun and getting to know each other better. We were supposed to have our first date on December 14th in 2013, but instead, I decided to total my car and spent the day at RMC, so we rescheduled our first date for sometime in January. I told my mom that I had a date with Hunt Guyton and her response was "oh Lord, is that Jack Guyton's son?" (my mom and his dad graduated from Donoho together) We finally had our first date! He took me to Los Mex and to see a Madea movie and we held hands...I knew then and there that he was the guy for me!
Not too long after our first date, it was time for the annual Calhoun County basketball tournament in Jacksonville and we went to every game together that week. On Wednesday that week, he was dropping me off at my parent's house and before I got out of the car, he said "so are you going to be my girlfriend now or what?" to which I of course said yes.
We been together for just over 5 years and have been able to experience a lot together. Proms, graduations, formals, jobs, countless lake and beach trips, arcade nights, two dogs, holidays, birthdays, and so much more, good and bad. We have been best friends through all seasons of life and we can't imagine our lives being any other way. As you can imagine, after dating for 5 years, we were ready to get married... we had been talking about marriage since early in our relationship and knew that it was time, but we needed to talk through the financial side of things and needed to decide if we wanted to wait to get married until I graduated college. Hunt graduated in May, but I will not graduate until next May. We decided that not much would change and that we wanted to go ahead and get married the semester before I graduate.
Once we had those decisions out of the way, I was pretty much just sitting on my hands waiting. Just about every plan he made had me thinking "will this be it?!" but...it wasn't. One Saturday in mid-March, we had no plans and I thought for sure that he was going to surprise me and propose that day. He did not. He could tell that I was bummed out and asked me about it, and I confessed that I really thought it would happen that day. So, after 3 months of being on edge waiting for a proposal, I decided to *try* to stop thinking about it and just let what was going to happen, happen. Turns out, he was going to propose that day...he had gone on that Saturday to pick up the ring, but it needed one more adjustment. Two days later on a Monday night (when I least expected it) he cooked me a perfect steak dinner, told me how he felt in the perfect words, and popped the question. I don't even think that I said the word "yes"...I just started crying and hugged him and then I heard him say "wait...you didn't even look at the ring" I looked down and saw the perfect combination of everything that I have ever wanted in a ring. I was in shock! He put the ring on my finger and we spent the next few hours FaceTiming all of our close family and freinds to share the big news.
Finally getting so close to the stage of life that we've been waiting so long for, we can't wait to be married! We are so excited for what is to come and are so thankful that we found each other and get to do this crazy thing called life side by side. December 14th will be THE best day and we can't wait to celebrate with all of our people!
