"You might be pregnant now…" Hedwig stated, from the blockbuster movie, Split. This movie is what really started it all. In 2017, it was one of the highly anticipated movies coming out that year. At the time, Chels and David were working for the same company. It was the movie that opened the first of many interactions with one another. These conversations later turned into deeper subjects, revealed secrets and truths, and eventually knowing each other on a more profound level.
Weeks passed, and neither of them made the “first move”. It was until Chels spoke about a night out with the girls downtown and coincidentally, David was going out with his friends that weekend as well. David tried to pull the good ole, “here’s my number, we should meet up while we are out” line. But Chels was not having it. She believed if anyone should be doing the “chasing”, it would be him. In one fell swoop, they exchanged numbers and the conversations led outside of work. Chels is a big horror/suspense movie buff and one of her favorite movie series is, The Purge. In passing, David mentioned that he had not seen any of the movies. It was then that Chels decided to change that and invited him over to watch the movie. He did accept the offer, however, Chels made it loud and clear that David was to sit on opposite sides of the room and that there was no funny business happening. It was strictly just to watch the movie. David arrived at Chels’ house and she answered the door in her sweatpants, sweatshirt, and hair up in a bun. She obviously had no intention to impress anyone. Once again, she made it clear that this “date” was just to watch a movie. To be clear, David had no other intentions but to watch the movie either. He was just happy that they were spending time outside of work, alone.
Months pass, spending time with each other increased, and their love for each grew every day. David was spending a few nights over Chels’ house. A few nights turned into consecutive days. Then those days turn into weeks and before they knew it, they were living together. Their future was moving fast. They knew it and was perfectly fine with it. They had each other and things just felt right. They wanted to take a big step into their relationship and wanted to have a place to call their own. It was a “seller’s market” and made sense to put Chels’ house up for sale. The plan was to build a house that fit the two of them with their design visions. Well, mainly Chels’ vision, but David was completely fine with it. With the house built, they were getting settled in. Chels’ plan was to get the house furnished as quickly as possible. With a lot of grit, determination, and a lot of orders being barked in a dictatorship-like manner, it got done. Several months have gone by and secretly, David wanted to take their relationship to another level. With the help of his friend, he picked out the perfect ring to fit the girl who he was spending the rest of his life with.
After weeks of planning the perfect proposal, David sprung up a date idea to Chels. He wanted to take her horseback riding. One of their first dates included horseback riding, so he mentioned that they go to the same place. It was all part of the plan. As they were riding deep into the woods, on their all white horses, the trail guide led them to a ridge, off the path. Behind them was a rock formation called ‘Lover’s Landing’. The guide explained that people would often come here at night as the stars would light up the sky. The guide looked at David and said that his saddle needed “fixed”. David was assisted from his horse and asked if the guide would take some pictures of them in front of the Lover’s Landing. After a few snaps, David turned to Chels and popped the question. Chels’ was completely clueless to what was going on and muttered a slow and drawn out, “yeah”. A few moments past, and all came rushing to her and it finally made sense to her. She was engaged. With eyes wide and bright, she started to get teary. In typical Chels fashion, she held them back and said that it would ruin her make up. She was elated, they both were. They knew that their journey together brought them here. And together, they knew that they would be ready for whatever life throws at them. Together.
