I stepped into the gym after getting ready in the locker room, already bracing myself for whatever boring lesson we were going to learn that day. We gathered around the P.E. teacher as usual. Then, I heard the boys’ locker room door swing open. I looked up—and that’s when my eyes met his. Norman. I knew of him. He was that cute senior who played tennis. The second our eyes met, I immediately looked away, my face turning beet red. I spun around to my friends and whispered, "Holy shit, he’s hot." Of course, they teased me right away and told me to go talk to him. But there was no way—I didn’t have the courage. Once everyone was gathered, the P.E. teacher told us we’d be heading outside to play tennis. When we got to the courts, he picked a few students to demonstrate the basics. (Keep in mind, our P.E. teacher was also the school’s tennis coach.) Naturally, he called on Norman and a few of the other boys who played. They stepped onto the court ready to demonstrate to the class how to hit the ball over the net. When all of a sudden the P.E. teacher calls on me to go stand next to Norman and more or less be his partner. I caused a scene in the class, "Please Mr. Higgins, make a freshman do it. I have done my duties". He was adamant I go demonstrate. I play sports, but I had never played tennis. The last thing I wanted to do was embarress myself in front of this super cute senior who I knew nothing about other than he was a good tennis player. The ball comes over the net of course to me. I raise my racket up and I hear "You got it". My racket hits the ball. I had instant relief when the ball went over and in. I look over too Norman and he goes "Nice shot". The demonstration ended and I got to reunite with my friends. Three days later I am sitting on my couch at home. I get this notification that "Norman Jodrey added you as a friend". My heart jumped my cheeks turned red and I clicked add. Within minutes he messaged me "Hey". The rest is history. I would like to think my tennis skills impressed him so much that he had to have me:)
