How We Met

In October, 2017 Tim hosted a party at his house. A mutual friend invited Nora. Tim and Nora spent the evening eyeing each other across the kitchen island and playing group board games in the basement. One game, Avalon, particularly sparked Tim's interest in Nora as her seemingly sweet persona belied her ability to bluff. Nora was equally intrigued by Tim's sense of humor; especially when he shared a story of one of his roommate's dog chasing a group of children and acted out the parts. As the party ended, Nora was one of the last to leave. At the door, Tim asked for her number. Four days later, they went on their first date.

Proposal

In September 2019, Tim and Nora traveled to Peru. On the second evening in Lima, they dined in an elegant restaurant with soft lighting and exquisite local cuisine. After finishing a dessert of thinly sliced mango wrapped around mango custard, Tim got down on one knee and asked Nora to spend the rest of her life with him. Although he had thought about proposing later in the trip, on the sand dunes of a desert oasis or atop a peak of Machu Picchu, he just couldn't wait. After Nora happily agreed, the waitstaff surprised the couple with a fruit-covered meringue with the words "I love you" written in chocolate syrup across the plate. Nora and Tim ate a second dessert because it was such a kind gesture, and also because they never pass up an opportunity to try delicious food.

Changes

The excited fiancés planned to marry on August 15, 2020. The pandemic caused them to reschedule to August 21, 2021. Ready to tie the knot and preserve their planned anniversary, the couple joined their immediate local family in their backyard and signed the marriage paperwork on August 21, 2020. Nora's mom, Kate, ordained through the Internet, allowed the proceedings to go forward legally. In the spring of 2021, Nora and Tim joyfully announced the news of the anticipated arrival of their child. The baby (name and gender yet to be announced) is due in January, 2021. Tim and Nora are delighted to celebrate their union and the expansion of their family with loved ones from near and far. Whether having two wedding anniversaries will prove to be a positive or a negative is yet to be decided.
