When you're going into your senior year of high school, you never expect to meet the person that you're going to marry...especially at just another basement party. A friend and I were invited to a party and since we were about to start our senior year, we wanted to have as much fun as possible. As soon as we walked in, Mike was the first person that I saw and we had actually met before through mutual friends that we had but for some reason that night was different. He walked up to us and said hi, we partnered up to play beer pong (romantic I know), and after that I somehow could not stop talking to him for the rest of the night. When the party was over, we exchanged numbers and the rest is history.

This Friday the 13th wasn’t so unlucky after all. We had just flown to Scottsdale, AZ the day before and had a whole day of activities planned. In the morning, we went quad riding in the desert for a few hours and then headed into downtown Scottsdale to shop around and sight see a little more. Not thinking anything of it, Mike was rushing me through every little task we did that day. Through dinner he was pretty quiet, and then after I had asked him to stop at this retro little ice cream shop that was right next to the restaurant that we had went to but he insisted that we go back to the hotel… now if you know me and ice cream you know that didn’t go over very well. So we compromised and we went to the ice cream shop but I had to take it to go. When we got back to the hotel it was probably around 8:30 at night and all Mike kept saying was that he wanted to take a walk along some of the nature paths that they had at our resort. We walked over to the main building with the bar, had a drink and were getting some recommendations for which path to take from the bartender. She had said that the one beside the pool led up the big stack of boulders in the center of the resort and there was a bench at the very top that overlooked the golf course. We made our way up to the top, sat on the bench for a little while and watched the heat lightening light up the entire sky. Right before we were getting ready to walk back down Mike proposed. Neither of us could tell you what was said, but after 7 years together, that day was the absolute best day of our lives.
