Nolan is a teacher at Heritage Classical Academy. He primarily teaches Classical literature to seventh and eighth graders. He loves to read poetry, philosophy, and theology; bouldering and wrestling are his favorite activities; and beer and coffee his favorite drinks. He loves fires, camping, squirrels, and candles; classical music, playing guitar, and thinking creatively. His favorite quote is from Joseph Ratzinger: “If an individual is to accept himself, someone must say to him: ‘It is good that you exist’-must say it, not with words, but with an act of the entire being that we call love.” He tells Jenn all the time: "I never dreamed I'd find a girl like you." He loves her faith, genuineness, and love; bright laugh, deep soul, light heart, wonderful momming, and endless talents. Jenn has one year left in her Deaf Interpretive Service program at Tri-C. She works part time at LCCC doing secretarial work and also babysits for a wonderful family. She loves picnics and walks outside; grabbing a chai tea while exploring a city with little shops; hosting and planning activities; and spending time with her son Mason, family, and friends. Some of Jenn’s favorite verses are Psalms 61:2-3 . “From the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.” Some qualities Jenn admires about Nolan: His servant heart, leadership, faithful quite times with God, love of reading and learning, humble attitude, gentleness, creativity, genuineness, deep mind, trustworthiness, great love of family and friends, and most importantly his deep love for his Savior.
On a quiet, snowy afternoon in April, I showed up to Nolan’s home for our “date night”. I stepped inside to find a huge beautiful bouquet of flowers as Nolan was in the process of making coffee and chai tea- to go. He played a worship song on his guitar while we sang together. We then prayed together right before jumping in the car for our adventure. Nolan handed me a flower (cut from a book) with a hand written note and clue (a fishing pole) on the back. It was a scavenger hunt, what fun! Nolan's sister, Tina, was just ahead secretly preparing the path. We ended up going to six different locations which included Nolan’s neighborhood, Wallace Lake, and downtown Berea. Each spot had a beautiful hand written note (a mixture of memories, inside jokes, and future plans of our life together), a plant, and then a clue to the next location. Nearing the end of our hunt, as we were walking through a path in the woods, we came upon a beautiful bridge where Nolan romantically got down on one knee... and scooped up a snowball and threw it at me. Ha, what a ham! We then proceeded over the bridge to a beautiful gazebo decorated with rose peddles, lights, and candles. It was here that he wrapped up the scavenger hunt with one last hand written note and riddle which he read aloud to me. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I immediately said, “YES!”. We then danced to one of my favorite songs (“Dancing in the Moonlight”) while the sleet from the sky landed gently on the lake next to us. It was an amazing scavenger hunt that ended in a beautiful proposal. Afterwards, we returned to Nolan’s home where Jordan (Nolan’s brother-in-law, best man) had prepared for us a romantic, 5-star, candlelight dinner. The dinner was incredible! We then spent time sharing our exciting news with close friends and family members. It was an incredible night that we will cherish forever. <3
