From Facebook to Forever

In 2015, Nolan was in Southern Illinois, contemplating whether or not to pursue a career in medicine. Naturally, he took to the most trusted source for life decisions: a Facebook pre-med group. Across the country in Dallas Texas, Heather saw his post and, in true Heather fashion, decided to chime in with some thoughtful (and slightly persuasive) advice. Neither of them knew it at the time, but that one comment would change everything. What started as a simple online exchange soon turned into regular messages, shared dreams, and a cross-country friendship built on ambition, honesty, and a whole lot of late-night conversations. Their bond began with medicine—but quickly grew to cover everything from favorite foods and music to future goals, bad jokes to big hopes. Over time, that friendship blossomed into something deeper. After two years of talking through every challenge and cheering each other on, they realized they weren’t just best friends—they were soulmates. Despite knowing their paths would be anything but easy (cue: grad school, long distance, three state moves, and back-to-back degrees), they chose each other. Eight years, two master’s degrees, and almost one full medical degree later, Nolan and Heather are still navigating life hand in hand—with the same humor, strength, and love that started it all in a Facebook comment thread. Now, they’re ready to take the next step: building a life, a family, and a future together as husband and wife. And yes, they still think Facebook deserves a thank-you card.
