Clear lake is the oldest lake in ALL of North America. In its current shape, Clear Lake has been here for roughly 200,000 years! Water in the Clear Lake basin even dates back to 2 Million years. This is quite surprising considering the average life span for a natural lake is about 10,000 years. Additionally, Clear Lake is really shallow - the average depth is only 30 feet. Compare that to Lake Tahoe where the average depth is 989 feet. The shallow depth of Clear Lake is one reason it is very rich in nutrients, a big contributor to the abundance of wildlife on the lake. From fishing and bird watching to watersports - Clear Lake has it all!
