If you plan to stay at an AirBnb or VRBO a few districts I would recommend include 9th and 9th/Liberty Wells, the Avenues, the East Bench, or Sugarhouse.
Uber/Lyft is very affordable in the area. Some Public Transit is available from downtown to the university via TRAX.
