Nearly 10 years ago on the sandy beaches of the New Jersey Shore, two North Rocklanders, born and raised only a few miles apart, finally met and started what would be the best journey of their lives. Noelle loved that Alex always kept her laughing, and Alex loved Noelle’s easy-going personality and sense of humor. Within days they became best friends. Then, they went on their first date on the boardwalk. The couple continued to date throughout college, taking trains and buses to see each other as often as possible. Noelle later transferred to Oneonta for their fashion program and the two could finally see each other every day. A few years out of college, Alex and Noelle both found themselves with new jobs in NYC. The 90-minute commute began to take its toll, so they started to look at apartments together. In December '16, Alex and Noelle moved into a small one-bedroom Hoboken apartment together along with two cats. Needless to say, it took some adjusting. Noelle prepared to move her cherished 12-year-old cat-daughter for the first time. Alex moved his frat cat in a few weeks later. They didn’t get along well. While moving came with its set of challenges, the years that followed had their share of ups to balance it out. They traveled to Las Vegas, San Diego, Los Angeles, Rome, and Florence together, indulging in delicious food and breathtaking views. In 2018, Alex decided it was time to take the next step: proposing. While hunting for a new apartment with Noelle, Alex got a call from the Turtleback Zoo (he snuck away to plan with them). They agreed to give Alex and Noelle private time with a penguin named Aurora-but they had to go the very next day. The following morning, they booked a ride to the zoo and were escorted to the penguin exhibit. While Aurora waddled around, Alex got on one knee and asked Noelle to marry him. He put the ring on her finger and she put on a big smile. Alex joked that she never actually answered him. Then, she said “yes”.
