Things To Do

There's something to do and eat for everyone in this beautifully diverse city. We've listed some of our favorite activities and restaurants.

Chicago Architecture Foundation Boat Tour

111 E Wacker, Chicago, IL 60601

This is by far the best architectural boat tour. The other boat tours you'll see (e.g. Wendella, Shoreline Sightseeing) do not stand up to the Architecture Foundation's high standard. Book your tickets in advance if possible - they sell out quickly. Neighborhood: Downtown

Chicago Botanic Garden

1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe, IL 60022
, (847) 835-5440

Worth the drive if you love plants. This is where Andrew proposed AND where we got married. We love this place.

Garfield Park Conservatory

300 North Central Park Avenue, Chicago, IL 60624
, (312) 746-5100

Another great stop for plants but located in the city. Neighborhood: Garfield Park

Lincoln Park Conservatory

2391 North Stockton Drive, Chicago, IL 60614
, (312) 742-7736

Did we mention we like plants? Neighborhood: Lincoln Park

Chicago Water Taxi

400 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611
, (312) 337-1446

Itinerary Suggestion: Take the water taxi from downtown to Chinatown (the last stop). Then walk to Hing Kee (also on this list). Then be satisfied that you had the best day. Neighborhoods: Downtown to Chinatown

The Art Institute of Chicago

111 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60603
, (312) 443-3600

World class art. Not to miss if you have never been. Neighborhood: Downtown

Quartino Ristorante

626 North State Street, Chicago, IL 60654
, (312) 698-5000

Great Italian food - small plates to share. Can make a reservation! This is where Melissa and Andrew have celebrated some important milestones over the years. Neighborhood: River North

Taquerías Atotonilco

3916 West 26th Street, Chicago, IL 60623
, (773) 762-3380

Best tacos in the city and better than many tacos we've eaten in Mexico. Located in Little Village, it's a little bit of a hike, but worth it! The al pastor and carne asada tacos are our faves. Cash only. Neighborhood: Little Village

Cindy's

12 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60603
, (312) 792-3502

Rooftop bar at the Chicago Athletic Association. Beautiful views of the lake and great cocktails. Neighborhood: Downtown

RAMEN-SAN

59 West Hubbard Street, Chicago, IL 60654
, (312) 377-9950

A variety of delicious ramens. There's also a location close to here at 165 E Huron. Neighborhood: River North

Xoco

Great Mexican street food. The habanero salsa is tasty. Neighborhood: River North

Gigio's Pizzeria

4643 North Broadway, Chicago, IL 60640
, (773) 271-2273

New York slices. Come for the pizza, stay for the people watching. Neighborhood: Uptown (our neighborhood!)

m.henry

One of our favorite brunch spots near our place. Melissa has spent too much money here over the years. Neighborhood: Andersonville

A small shack under the Skyway Bridge that smokes their own fish fresh in the said small shack. Neighborhood: South Chicago
