How We Got Here

We met at the University of Minnesota while working as guides at the Center for Outdoor Adventure. In the fall of 2019, we were assigned to co-guide a backpacking trip on the Superior Hiking Trail and spent days preparing—only for a surprise blizzard to cancel the trip. Disappointed but not ready to change plans, we decided to go camping anyway, heading to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. That trip sparked something, and we kept finding reasons to spend time together. Noah tried teaching Nicole to mountain bike, we canoed down Minnehaha Creek, and explored all the city parks. Through it all, a solid relationship formed—one built on movement and a shared pull toward the outdoors. After that fall together, Nicole left for Patagonia, and we reunited the following summer in Moab, Utah, working seasonal jobs and living out of our cars in the desert heat. What followed over the next few years was a rhythm that became familiar: sometimes together, sometimes apart, always moving—Minnesota, Montana, Missouri, Italy, Maine. But even when life pulled us in different directions, we always found our way back to one another. Our summers in Montana brought everything we loved most: big mountains, long days, and endless adventure. This special place formed the backdrop of our first year post-graduation together. After a hiatus in White Salmon, Washington, exploring the Pacific Northwest, we returned to the Montana mountains and the community we had built. All the adventures and misadventures, moving and settling, led us to this moment—we’re so excited to celebrate this journey with you, surrounded by joy and love.
