Noah and I met while we were both living in Grand Rapids. I was in my second year of medical school, and Noah was reporting for a local news station. We matched on Hinge! Our first date took place at a cocktail bar called Buffalo Traders Lounge. Drinks were followed by an impromptu karaoke night at a pub called Z’s. I picked the song, so we sang a duet of Complicated by Avril Lavigne. The pandemic hit a few weeks into our relationship. For the first stay-at-home order, I asked if I could move into his apartment for a couple weeks. As Noah reported to his dad during a phone call, living together was "dangerously good". We were in our own little world, having fun getting to get to know each other as we quarantined together. We spent our time playing games, doing crosswords, watching shows, reading books in the park and getting way too into pickle ball. We had many outdoor hiking adventures in the West Michigan area, along with a camping trip in the Upper Peninsula. This quality time together set a strong foundation from the get-go. We had to be really honest about who we were and what we wanted, while working through pandemic hardships. In the summer of 2020, it was time for me to move to the Flint area for my clinical rotations, and Noah moved back to Cleveland. We stayed connected by many, many face times and phone calls. In the spring of 2021, Noah landed a job in the University of Michigan Health communications department, and we lived together in Ypsilanti. After I graduated from medical school in May 2022, Noah and I flew out to Seattle where he proposed! I’m so happy that he made this our future anniversary spot. Now Noah and I are back to being semi-long distance, with me back in Grand Rapids as a resident, and Noah in Ypsilanti. But no worries, we’re pros at this now! That’s us!
