One Drink, One Seat, One Yes

July 24,2023

It started as an ordinary night at Danny’s Tavern, the kind of night Niria expected to end early. She had come with her aunt, planning to play a few pull tabs and have a couple of drinks—nothing serious, nothing memorable. But the universe had other plans. As the night wore on, Niria was just getting into her rhythm. The pull tabs weren’t terrible, the drinks were flowing, and the energy of the place felt alive. Her aunt, however, had reached her limit and was ready to head home. Niria wasn’t. Not even close. The disagreement spilled into the parking lot, voices sharper than the night air. Niria stood her ground, heart pounding but mind made up. She wasn’t leaving yet. And before her aunt could argue any further, Niria said the words that would quietly change everything: “Lewis is taking me home.” The funny part? Lewis had no idea. They had barely spoken all night—just passing glances, small moments unnoticed by anyone else. But Niria had decided that tonight, she was done waiting for signs. She walked back inside, confidence carrying her across the room, and slid into the seat next to Lewis. She looked at him and said, just like that, “You’re taking me home.” Lewis blinked, surprised, then smiled. No confusion. No hesitation. Instead, he offered her something even better first—tri-tip. And that was an offer Niria absolutely could not refuse. So they left together. Not straight home, but to Lewis’s place, where dinner turned into conversation, laughter, and that unmistakable feeling that something important was unfolding. Afterward, Niria went home—but everything felt different. Because sometimes the biggest love stories don’t start with fireworks or grand speeches. Sometimes they start with pull tabs, a stubborn heart, an unexpected seat at the bar… …and a plate of tri-tip. The rest, as they say, is history. 💫
