Two teachers met at their workplace, Providence High School, in Burbank, CA. It was October 1, 2019, when Genderzon joined Nicole's school as a new part-time Physics teacher. Nicole always completed her teacher requirements, and decided to observe Genderzon's class to check off her "teacher observation" for the year. The year was busy, so they didn't see much of each other until the beginning of December, when their work had scheduled a happy hour at a local Mexican Restaurant, Los Amigos. How prescient. Nicole and her friends ordered margaritas, and Genderzon ordered nachos to share with the table. They chatted the whole evening. Unfortunately, Nicole's father, Rudy Morrison, was very sick, and on December 10th, he passed away. Nicole did not return back to work until January 2020. Their school hosted an annual Faculty/Staff Overnight Retreat, and that year it was at Pismo Beach. Genderzon and Nicole met again as they were randomly assigned to the same group for a photo scavenger hunt. Next came March of 2020, and the Covid Pandemic hit. Their school closed, and they were sent to teach their classes online. Nicole and Genderzon didn't see each other the rest of the academic year. Then, Fall of 2020, Genderzon became a full-time teacher and joined the Math Department, where Nicole had created a weekly "Happy Hour from Home" for the math teachers to meet up virtually and stay connected during those unprecedented times. Genderzon quickly integrated into the group. Once April 2021 rolled around the corner, their school reopened for classes, and their virtual happy hours turned into "Monthly Math Moments". That month, the team scheduled to meet up at Brews Brothers, walking distance from school; however, one by one their friends could not attend, so only Nicole and Genderzon showed. May of 2021 was their last month working together, since Nicole was switching schools. But the Summer of 2021 was when their friendship took a turn and they went out on their first date!

In the spring of 2024, Genderzon knew that the time was right to take the next step in their life journey. With the help of two pixies (Ashley and Rosanne) and a fairy godmother (Kathy), he developed a plan for a magical proposal: in front of an enchanted castle! Genderzon planned and hoped to propose in the summer at the Belvedere Castle in Manhattan's Central Park, but alas, Nicole was busy running her summer dance program. To recover the magic, Genderzon decided on the Happiest Place on Earth: Disneyland. So he set about coordinating to make this happen, picking the Who, Where, When, and How. * Who else would attend if not the people most excited to witness this next step for Nicole: her Mother, Sister, Cousins, Best Friends, and her fairy Godmother. * Where else would Nicole get married if not Disneyland's Enchanted Castle? After all, she named her car after her favorite Disney princess: Cinderella. * As for when? What other date and time would make more sense for two math teachers if not December 6th at 3 pm? Order those numbers from Year to Hour and you get: 24.12.06 at 3 pm! 24, 12, 6, 3! * How? The team decided that the family would wait on the North side of the castle in Fantasyland, while Nicole & Genderzon would walk across from Matterhorn to the central courtyard in front of the enchanted castle. And so it was that Nicole & Genderzon planned a weekend get-a-way to Disneyland in December of 2024, when the Magic Kingdom was decked out in Christmas decorations. They arrived early, and went straight for Tomorrowland. Both were on their phones checking how long the lines were for each attraction, but little did Nicole know that Genderzon was secretly scheming with her family to surprise her. At 2:10pm, N&G made their way to the Matterhorn and Genderzon decided he "needed to use the restroom" while Nicole held their spots in the line as an excuse to check-in with the photographers to make sure the moment was captured perfectly. Time was in their favor, so at 2:30 after getting off the Matterhorn they made their way to the enchanted castle only to be met with a PARADE! Adapting to the curve ball, they made their way around the parade route by going THROUGH Fantasyland, where Nicole's family were waiting; yet Nicole & Genderzon were able to cross through Fantasyland without spoiling the surprise. They got the line early enough, and the line was short enough, that Genderzon convinced Nicole to go buy herself her favorite Disneyland snacks: a Mickey Pretzel and Churro! At 2:50, they made it to the front of the line with the photographers all in on the plan who then pretended to take a break to swap out batteries. With the clock running down, the plan was deployed: the photographers had Nicole & Genderzon go through a variety of simple couples poses with their snacks, and they set Nicole up to take that special shot. At 2:59 Nicole turned to face the castle with her arms stretched over her head in a celebratory fashion, and Genderzon got down on his knee with the ring held in his hand. When Nicole turned around and Genderzon asked her to marry him, she nodded her head and responded.. pause for effect... "Thank You." At 3:01, immediately after the proposal, Nicole's family sprang out from the crowd with Myles' booming voice yelling "YEA NICOOOOOLE" which startled Nicole, as she finally realized her engagement dream came true.
