Travel Note
Venice recently instituted a tax on day trippers to the city to deal with excessive tourism. If you’re staying in Venice, you don’t need to pay the tax, but you do need to register and get an exemption. We recommend everyone registers, as the tax is minimal (5 euros a day) but the failure to either pay it or register for an exemption is far more. It's easy to register, go to the website linked above -- one person can register for everyone staying at their home or hotel! You’ll just need everyone’s date and place of birth. You’ll receive a QR code to keep on your phone to show in case you’re stopped. It’s not in effect every day, but unfortunately it is in effect on the wedding day.
Flight
Venice's international airport is Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE). VCE offers some direct flights to the East Coast, and many daily options to large European cities.
Train
You can also take the train from most northern Italian cities to Venice Santa Lucia Train Station. The train from Milan to Venice is approximately 2.5 hours.
Travel Note
Turismo is an excellent English-speaking water taxi company which you may call 24/7 to book a taxi at 041 240 2711.
