NYC

The Wedding Website of Nina Oishi and Alexander Fischer
Our venue, Rule of Thirds, is located on the border of the Greenpoint and Williamsburg neighborhoods in Brooklyn. It is accessible by public transit (7 minute walk from the Nassau Ave station on the G subway line, which runs north-south between Brooklyn and Queens; 15 minute walk from the Bedford Ave station on the L subway line, which runs between Brooklyn and Manhattan; and a 15 minute walk from the Greenpoint Ferry Pier, which travels between much of Brooklyn and the E 34th St Pier in Manhattan). If you'd like to be close to the venue, we recommend you stay in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We've listed a few close hotels below; they're all walkable to the venue! If you're visiting NYC for the first time and hoping to visit museums and other famous sites, we recommend you stay in Manhattan! Much of Manhattan is only a 20-30 minute cab ride from the venue. We love public transit and are happy to help you if you're confused––please reach out!

Flight

Flying in?

There are three NYC-area airports: Newark (in New Jersey), Laguardia (in Queens), and JFK (in Brooklyn). If you are staying in Brooklyn, we recommend JFK or Laguardia. If you are staying in Manhattan, we recommend Laguardia or Newark. From Laguardia, you can take a non-flat-fee cab. From JFK, we recommend taking a cab with flat fee, or, if you are brave, taking the multi-step public transit option (AirTrain to subway). From Newark, we recommend taking the Newark Airport Shuttle, which will drop you off at Penn Station, or taking the AirTrain to NJ Transit or Amtrak. Of course, you can also get a cab. Please contact us if you have transit questions!

Travel Note

Should I stay in Brooklyn?

If you want to prioritize staying as close as possible to the venue, we recommend you stay in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The neighborhood has several hotels within walking distance of the venue, and is known for its incredible dining and shopping. From Williamsburg, you can get to Manhattan on the L subway line. You can also stay farther afield in Brooklyn; we recommend looking for lodgings near the G subway line. The buses in Brooklyn are also very efficient and easy! Thanks Mayor Mamdani! However, if it's your first time to NYC, many of museums and other famous attractions are located in Manhattan, not Brooklyn.

Travel Note

Should I stay in Manhattan?

If you're visiting NYC for the first time, you probably want to stay in Manhattan, home to Central Park, Grand Central Station, and most of the big museums like MoMA and the Met. If you want to take public transportation to our venue, we recommend staying near the Union Square, a great neighborhood with tons of restaurants and shopping (you'll be able to take the L subway line to the venue); or near Grand Central Station, an easy subway uptown or downtown to shopping and museums (you'll be able to take the 7 subway line to the G subway line to our venue). But if you're wearing heels, it might be easiest to take a cab regardless!

Travel Note

Should I stay in Queens?

We love Queens. Sometimes, we wish we still lived in Queens. If it's your first time to NYC, however, you might prefer to stay closer to the major attractions.

Travel Note

Should I Stay in The Bronx or Staten Island?

There is much to recommend about the Bronx and Staten Island but their proximity to our venue is not one of them.

Train

Taking the NYC Subway to the Wedding

Our venue is accessible by public transit. We love the NYC subway system! Coming from Brooklyn, you can reach our venue on the G subway line (7 minute walk from the Nassau Ave station). If you are coming from Manhattan, you have two subway options: If you are closer to Grand Central Station, you can take the 7 subway line to Court Square in Queens, then transfer to the G subway line and get off at Nassau Ave. If you are closer to 14th Street/Union Square, you can take the L subway line to Bedford Ave station (15 minute walk to the venue). The subway system runs frequently. You can pay via tap-to-pay on your phone or card (RIP Metro Card). Be aware most stations are not ADA-compliant and have many stairs.

Travel Note

Other Ways to Get to the Wedding

If you don't want to take the subway, we recommend either the ferry or a cab. First, if you are staying in Manhattan, closer to E 34th Street along the East River, you can take the NYC Ferry to Greenpoint. Please note that although there are ticket kiosks at the ferry stations, the easiest way is to pre-purchase your ticket on the NYC app. Ferries leave according to the schedule, do not wait, and can be quite busy on holiday weekends, so plan ahead and arrive early. Second, you can also take a cab. We prefer yellow cabs in NYC to Uber because they are regulated and treat drivers more fairly. They are also very fast and easy now thanks to congestion pricing, which has made NYC much safer for drivers and pedestrians! Most hotels in Manhattan are a 20-30 minute cab ride to the venue.

We will be staying at this Manhattan hotel for the weekend, but there are many hotel options nearby! Located in Midtown Manhattan, this hotel offers decently centralized access to much of the city. Otherwise, if you'd like to prioritize ease of reaching the wedding venue via public transit, we recommend staying close to the L subway station along 14th Street.
