The fortress has a rich history dating back to the Roman period. It played a crucial role in defending the city and has witnessed numerous battles and sieges. Today, it stands as a testament to Belgrade's resilience and historical significance. Kalemegdan Fortress holds a special place in our hearts because it is where we got engaged! Amidst the ancient walls and the serene atmosphere, we made a promise to each other that will last a lifetime. Now, every time we visit Kalemegdan, we are reminded of that magical day and the love we share. It is not just a historical site for us; it is a part of our story, a place where our journey together took a beautiful turn. Church of Saint Sava
One of the largest Orthodox churches in the world and the crown jewel of Belgrade. The church is dedicated to Saint Sava, the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church and an important figure in Serbian history. The exterior of the church is characterized by its large white marble and granite facade, while the interior is adorned with beautiful mosaics and frescoes. The central dome of the church is particularly impressive, standing at 70 meters high and topped with a large gold-plated cross. The Church of Saint Sava is not only a place of worship but also a symbol of Serbian culture and heritage.
Knez Mihailova
For a taste of local life, stroll through Knez Mihailova Street, a bustling pedestrian zone teeming with shops, cafes, and street performers. This lively street will lead you to Trg Republike, the Republic Square, which is the main meeting point in the city and home to the National Museum and the National Theatre.

Belgrade Waterfront is a modern development located along the banks of the River Sava, transforming the Belgrade skyline. Belgrade Waterfront is home to the largest shopping mall in the region, The Galeria, offering an array of international brands, restaurants, cafes, and entertainment options. The riverside promenade features trendy restaurants and bars with outdoor seating, perfect for enjoying the view while tasting local and international cuisine.
Kafana
Belgrade’s culinary scene is a delightful blend of traditional Serbian cuisine and modern gastronomy. For an authentic experience, head to Skadarlija, the city’s bohemian quarter. Here, you’ll find charming cobblestone streets lined with kafanas, traditional Serbian restaurants offering hearty dishes like ćevapi (grilled minced meat), sarma (stuffed cabbage rolls), and pljeskavica (Serbian burger). Dva Jelena and Tri Sesira are popular choices, known for their lively atmosphere and live music. Book a table, bring your loved ones and bring a bit of cash (tipping the band is recommended)

If you’re seeking a more contemporary dining experience, Beton Hala is the place to be. This riverside area is home to a variety of upscale restaurants and bars. Toro Latin GastroBar offers a fusion of Latin American flavors, while Ambar serves modern Balkan cuisine with a twist. For a taste of the Mediterranean, visit Comunale Caffe e Cucina, known for its delicious pasta and wood-fired pizzas.
Mokum Restaurant
Mokum is the restaurant we had our first meal together as an engaged couple, it’s located at the top of Hotel Amsterdam in the heart of the city overlooking Belgrade. We highly recommend booking a table close to the windows for a stunning view.
Mama Shelter
We would also recommend grabbing cocktails on the rooftop bar of Mama Shelter right off Knez Mihailova as this is where we went on our very first date.
Lafayette Cuisine Cabaret Club
Lafayette is arguably the most exclusive venue in Belgrade and is an experience unlike any other. Enjoy a fantastic dinner, then a world-class cabaret and then a full blown club until 4 in the morning. Reservations should be made at least a month in advance and the only recommendation we have is to pace yourselves with the drinks…

Maison Boho is a tiny bar with immense energy. The vibes of the staff are immaculate, from standing on tables chanting lyrics to whipping out random instruments to add to the atmosphere, everyone is always smiling from ear to ear. You’re guaranteed to have a blast!
