There will be no shortage of unique traditions at our wedding! Our celebration will blend Serbian, Italian, Slovak, and other European customs that are meaningful to our families. One of the biggest traditions you’ll experience is kolo dancing, a lively circle dance accompanied by a tamburica band common at Serbian celebrations. Guests are encouraged to jump in, grab hands, and join the circle—no experience required! You may notice a few guests wearing Serbian flag sashes. These mark special honorary roles in the wedding party: the kum and kuma (koom and koo -mah) and the stari svat and svata (star-ee svaht and svah-tah). Right after the ceremony, you might hear celebratory gunshots. Don’t worry—this is a traditional Balkan send-off for the couple, symbolizing celebration and good wishes for the marriage. Of course, there will also be plenty of food and drink traditions. One of our favorites is the Italian cookie table, featuring classic wedding sweets like pizzelles and other homemade treats. You may also see a wooden vessel called a čutura (choo-choh-rah) being passed around throughout the day. It’s filled with Serbian šljivovica (shlee-voh-vee-tsah), a traditional plum brandy. Guests are welcome to take a sip and pass it along—but be careful, it’s strong! Later in the evening, we’ll incorporate a Slovak tradition from the bride's mom's side called čepčenie (chep-cheh-nee-eh). During this ceremony, the bride wears a crown or special headpiece while guests dance and celebrate around her. This ritual symbolizes the bride’s transition into married life and is accompanied by music, singing, and dancing with family and friends. We love these traditions and can’t wait to share them with you!
While we absolutely adore your little ones, our wedding will be an adults-only celebration, with the exception of our flower girls and ring bearer. We hope this gives everyone a chance to relax and enjoy the evening!
Yes! There is ample parking available at both the church and the reception venue. Guests are also welcome to leave their cars overnight at either location if needed.
We are not providing shuttle service across all wedding locations, so we recommend planning transportation in advance. We will have a complimentary shuttle for guests to our preferred hotel, Wind Creek Casino, starting after dinner from 9:00pm to 1:00am. We recommend driving or ubering on your own to and from the church for the ceremony. Then, dropping your car at Wind Creek casino and then ubering to the reception. Cars can also be left overnight at Ravisloe Country Club. Uber, Lyft, and local taxi services operate in the area, and scheduling ahead is encouraged for a smooth transitions.
We truly appreciate the effort you’re making to celebrate with us — our wedding weekend spans the Chicagoland area and even crosses state lines! The church and cocktail/reception venue are approximately a 28-minute drive apart. From the reception, our preferred hotel, Wind Creek Casino, is just about 7 minutes away. If you’re staying in downtown Chicago for the weekend, the drive from the reception is approximately 35 minutes. Ubers, Lyfts, and taxi services are abundant in the area so we encourage you to plan ahead so that you can enjoy a fun, stress-free party!
Do it! Chicago is one of our favorite cities — and where our relationship truly blossomed during the five years we lived there together. There’s no shortage of amazing food, views, and fun. Take a look at our “Things to Do” page for some of our personal favorite spots!
The reception ends at 1:00 a.m. For any super late-night party goers, we recommend heading over to Wind Creek Casino to continue the party (about 7 minutes drive from the reception).
Please RSVP by April 19th. This allows us to confirm our final headcount and seating arrangements.
Yes, the cocktail hour and dance floor will both be held in the outside courtyard at Ravisloe Country Club (weather permitting). Late May evenings can cool down, so we recommend keeping an eye on the forecast and bringing a light jacket or wrap just in case.
We’re so excited to start this next chapter together! If you’d like to give a gift, we would truly appreciate a contribution toward our new home fund or our honeymoon adventure in Thailand. For those who prefer, we also have a small registry available. You can easily contribute to either on our wedding website.
