Shocking, I know. Two millennials meeting on a dating app, but what can we say? It was a match! We can't really remember who messaged who first, but OkCupid was the match maker in our case. After a few days of messaging (and one pretty funny conversation when we figured out we had the same name), we decided it was time for our first date - Empanadas and drinks at La Masa on Brady Street. (Nikki likes to remind Nicole she was the brave one who asked.) We nervously talked, and laughed, for hours. It was a pretty great first date. A few days later there were tacos, and then donuts and fried chicken at Mike's, and so on and so forth. About a year later, after many, MANY hours of painting (and enough wallpaper removal to last a lifetime) we moved in together! We both knew pretty early on we had something special.
Ah, New Orleans. The land of colorful houses, plenty of booze, and all the humidity! Even in February. Nicole thought she had the perfect plan. She bought the ring months in advance, booked the trip, and set up a photography experience in the French Quarter. It was going to be a great surprise, or so she thought. Nikki says she knew all along... So anyway, we were walking the streets of the French Quarter and the photographer was giving us a great history lesson on the entire city. We took some pictures by the river, some in Jackson Square, and then we headed down a side street. The photographer was in on the plan, and he and Nicole had set up a signal, but he wasn't exactly subtle when it came down to it. When he said "Magic things happen on Orleans Street," that was Nicole's hint. She pulled out the ring box (don't ask where she had been hiding it), grabbed Nikki's hand and said, ".....................". Well actually, neither of us remember exactly what she said, but at some point she asked Nikki to spend the rest of her life with her and SHE SAID YES!!!
