Our story thus far

Our story begins actually before we ever met. Nikki intended to go to a Christian college in New York to continue her high school soccer career. Kenan on the other hand, 422 miles away, had a similar idea. He planned to attend a local community college and join the men's golf team. However, both of their plans came to a halt whenever the world changed because of Covid 19. As a result, they didn't attend their selected colleges, but instead looked into a small Bible School called "His Hill", located far from home in the middle of Texas. The two set out without any idea that this is where the Lord would bring them not only to Himself, but also to each other. They started off as first year students hearing God's Word together and growing closer to Him. Because they both enjoy sports, they ended up doing a lot of sport like activities at the Hill (including spikeball), where they noticed the chemistry between them as they absolutely dismantled their opponents. Even though they were around each other a lot, they didn't talk too much. That is, until Nikki went on a trip to Albania. Kenan would snapchat her everyday asking about the trip, but maybe it was for other reasons too... After spring break, much to Nikki's surprise, Kenan didn't really talk to her as much because he didn't want anyone to know he liked her. Throughout the rest of the year, they found themselves hanging out more often, either at the dinner table, through sports, school projects, or just with their friend groups. This time spent together sparked the desire to spend more time, as Nikki on her end was praying Kenan would ask her out and Kenan was praying to know if he should or not. Time went by and more and more people kept bugging them about the obvious reality that they liked each other. Kenan kept reminding His friends that He did not like her and didn't come to Bible school for that and he said he wouldn't date during the school year. But more and more he realized he did like her and couldn't keep denying it. Meanwhile, Nikki was telling her friend she already wanted to marry him. While at work, Kenan was being bugged by one of his coworkers (Nikki's close friend) about it and she basically told him that if he asked Nikki out she would say yes. This was a big help for Kenan to know that maybe the feeling was mutual because Nikki was good at not making it obvious yet showing interest. Camp was around the corner and they both decided they would join. Now that Kenan accomplished his goal of not dating during the school year, he had no reason not to date her now. But he wasn't sure if it was a good time to date her as he had no clue what to expect with camp. Then he talked with his friends, dad and the camp director who all thought he should pursue her now. Pursue her he did. On May 30, 2020 after a walk in the woods he asked if he could spend the summer getting to know her more intentionally. She happily said yes. So, they spent the summer doing just that, on the weekends doing things in a group setting. Until toward the end of the summer, Nikki was asked if they could label the relationship as Boyfriend and Girlfriend. She said yes and for the first time in either of their lives, they were dating. The summer ended and they came back for a second year of Bible School where they made more friends, grew in their relationship with the Lord and each other. They decided to stay another summer and enjoyed serving the Lord together yet again. The summer ended and they went home starting what felt like a long time of long distance relationship. Phone call after phone call, and a few short visits later, Nikki and Kenan went to his family's cabin on October 19th 2021. They went on another walk in the woods but this time with a ring in his pocket. Her best friend wanted to marry her and she said yes. Now they are excited to continue their story and see where the Lord takes them, and they are so glad that it involves you! To God be the glory! Psalm 34:3, Romans 11:36.
