There are many different entrances to the 12 miles of trails snaking throughout downtown Austin, but this one might be the most accessible and most likely to have water this time of year. Even though it’s in the middle of the city, you will feel like you’re in the woods. Wear comfortable shoes and prepare for a hike. Other notable entrances include The Flats (Nicolette grew up right next door to this trailhead), Sculpture Falls (beware of the Hill of Life - it’s quite the hike back out), and Gus Fruh. If it’s dry, don’t say we didn’t warn you!
More hiking and biking. This is an easy, mostly flat trail around Lady Bird Lake with great views of downtown Austin.
Austin’s most notorious park, home to Austin City Limits music festival, Blues on the Green, and the annual Kite Festival. Bring a picnic, play some beach volleyball, or enjoy some people watching and prepare to make many canine friends. Within walking distance are the Zilker Botanical Garden and the Umlauf Sculpture Garden which are both beautiful must-sees.
A lively street with many shops and restaurants. Great view of the state capitol building. If we haven’t had a cold snap yet, you might even be able to see the colony of bats (like, millions of bats) that live under the Congress bridge emerging at sunset.
Climb 102 stairs to get to the best panoramic view of Austin.
We’ve been on a few dates here, and we love the vibe. Sip some coffee or beer while listening to live music. They have several food trucks including Veracruz tacos which was recently Michelin recognized. Check their website for live show schedules! Only a 10 minute drive from the Aloft hotel.
