Travel Note
For those who aren't familiar with New York City, here's a break down of the geography a bit to help you decide where to stay! Our wedding will be in Brooklyn, NY in a neighborhood called Dumbo. Dumbo has a few hotels (which I have linked below), but a majority are located in downtown Brooklyn, still close to the venue. Dumbo is on the water so it's easily accessible from Manhattan, especially from the Lower East Side. Downtown Brooklyn is great for those wanting to have easy access to trains to pop into Manhattan and to easily get to the wedding venue. Williamsburg is a close-by Brooklyn neighborhood to DUMBO, but slightly farther travel to the DUMBO area. It's easy via car, but if you're unfamiliar with NYC transit, it might be a little harder to navigate, as you'll likely need to take more than one train. It's great area if you're looking for ample amounts of restaurants and shopping, although it is quite trendy so tends be more pricey. Lower East Side is neighborhood in Manhattan that's conveniently located for travel to the wedding venue. It's lively neighborhood with restaurants and bars and more of that "NYC" feel for those looking to get the full NYC experience. SoHo is a neighborhood located more to the west side of Manhattan making a little farther to travel to the wedding venue, but still doable. This neighborhood is great for shopping and will also give you the big city vibes you might be looking for! I have not included hotels in areas like Time Square because I'm really unfamiliar with the area. Note that if you want the really touristy experience, this is the area for you! But know that it can get quite hectic and overwhelming if large crowds aren't your thing. If you stay in Time Square you'll be about a 30 min train ride or 40 min car ride to the wedding venue. I have not included Airbnb or VRBO options, but they are definitely nice options for larger groups or families!
Travel Note
There are 3 airports that are located near New York City and Brooklyn. Below breaks down which ones would be best to fly into based on where you're staying. JFK is located in Queens, NY (the Brooklyn side). Flying into this airport is convenient for anyone staying in Brooklyn. But those staying in Manhattan can most definitely still fly into JFK, it'll just be a little longer of a train ride or car ride. LaGuardia is also located in Queens, NY but farther north and west than JFK, closer to Manhattan. If you're staying in Lower East side for example, this is a shorter commute than from JFK. Newark is located in Newark, NJ. It's across the river to the west of Manhattan. I would not reccomend flying into Newark if you're staying in Brooklyn as it can be a long drive or transit ride, especially during rush hour. If you're staying in Manhattan, it's better, but still a longer commute than LaGuardia and can be longer than JFK, depending on traffic. Hope this helps!!
Travel Note
Navigating the NY Subway takes some getting used to but Google Maps is a great way to navigate. You can easily search your destination and Google Maps will let you know best routes, trains to take and help guide you to the correct stations. You can also download an app called Citymapper which is very helpful as well! Be patient with yourself and the Subway system =), it's not perfect but it is very convenient since driving in NYC/Brooklyn can take much longer due to traffic! Regardless of which you choose, car or subway/bus, always give yourself an EXTRA 20 minutes (at least) for travel because both public transit and car can be VERY unpredictable!! =)
