Most countries require a negative COVID test within either 72 or 24 hours in order to get in your international flight. The US currently requires a negative test within 24 hours. Please check relevant government websites (see above) for the most updated information.
Laboratorio Juan Pablo II (3a Avenida Sur 1, Antigua Guatemala) offers COVID testing (PCR or antigen) at their walk-in clinic in Antigua. You do not need an appointment and can simply walked into the clinic, mentioned what test we needed, filled out the paperwork (you will need your passport and your COVID vaccine information), and got the test. Results are done in 30 minutes for an antigen test and 60 minutes for a PCR. To get your results, simply ask the team at the font desk and they will give you the paper. Most international airlines will ask you to upload a picture of the test to their site in advance of your trip. You should also bring the physical test with you to the airport. The antigen test costs Q250 (approximately USD $30). You can pay in cash via GTQ (Guatemalan quetzal) or with any major credit card. We both (Nicolette and Alejandro) went here to get our antigen tests before coming back to the States. So easy! Google maps link: https://goo.gl/maps/ha6mDD5n5YMDdFpu9
Yes. You can ask a doctor to come do hotel or home testing for individuals, groups of 2, groups of 16, or groups of 20+. The testing is priced accordingly. The details for all those options are saved in a Google Drive folder here. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1nzEUQ7962NO38oXUnQuKAt1MsflqO1Ov?usp=sharing
We recommend that all guests that need to get COVID tests do so in Antigua before leaving for the airport. If you do need to get a COVID test in the city, you can visit one of the Blue Medical locations near the airport. Blue Medical Various Locations – some have 24-hour availability Phone: 2300-4000 https://www.mibluemedical.com/gt/ PCR: Q645 (6 hours) Rapid Antigen: Q295 (1 hour) Home Visits: can be scheduled for an additional fee Or visit Laboratorio San Lázaro La Aurora Airport, Zona 13 (open 24 hours) Phone: 2315-8540 / 2315-8541 / 4736-6403 contactosanlazaro@gmail.com Rapid Antigen: Q200 (1 hour)
Yes. GUA has 24-COVID testing on site at the airport. If you need to get tested immediately before or after flying, this is a great option. Just ask the staff at the airport for directions.
For international guests, plan on flying into Guatemala International Airport (GUA). Antigua is approximately 50 minutes from Guatemala City (depending on traffic). We recommend that guests take shuttles arranged by your hotels to get to Antigua. You can see our travel page for more information about shuttles, Uber, and rental car options.
International guests will need a valid passport to travel and may need a visa. Please check relevant government websites for information about visa requirements and current wait times.
We would love to have everyone arrive on Wednesday, January 12. We are planning some welcome events and also are hoping our friends and family will take this opportunity to explore the beautiful city of Antigua Guatemala.
We are hoping that our guests will stay in Antigua through Sunday, January 16, or Monday the 17 (which happens to be the MLK holiday in the States). There are plenty of things to do in the area and we will be coordinating some optional activities for Saturday and Sunday following the wedding. For those with a little extra time to travel, we would highly recommend visiting Lake Atitlán or the beach before or after the wedding!
We will continue to update the Travel page with suggested accommodations. We are encouraging folks to connect with each other and co-plan travel. Feel free to reach out to us if you have specific questions or needs.
Most of our guests are either staying in hotels that provide shuttle service to/from the airport or live locally and will be driving to the wedding on their own. We would ask that international guests who are staying in hotels coordinate transport directly with that hotel. If you are having trouble figuring out the shuttles or just don't know how to get to Antigua, please reach out to Nicolette asap / before December 20. We want to make sure all our guests can join us in Antigua and are happy to help coordinate or trouble-shoot if you are stuck.
We'll have our ceremony and reception Convento Santa Clara in Antigua Guatemala.
We've included a description of the recommended attire for each event that can be viewed through the RSVP page on our website. Sign in using your name to see those specific event details. Note that our venue is outdoors and Antigua has lovely cobble stone streets. We do recommend that our guests wear shoes that will be comfortable for walking to events and enjoying an outdoor wedding. You can check the weather app before traveling, but we would suggest having a jacket or other kind of warm layer for the evenings.
We will be working with specific guests to understand their childcare needs and coordinate childcare accordingly. If you plan on brining children to wedding or wedding weekend, please let us know as soon as possible!
We are asking that all guests be vaccinated in order to attend the wedding. The wedding and all of the wedding-related events are at outdoor venues. Staff working at the wedding events are asked to be vaccinated as well and will both be taking rapid tests before the wedding will be wearing masks during the events. Since the wedding is at an outdoor venue and we are requiring guests to be vaccinated, guests will not be asked to wear masks at the wedding. If you feel more comfortable wearing a mask during the wedding, please feel free to do so. We are committed to your safety and will quickly communicate any changes to our plan should they arise. In the end, if you are not comfortable traveling to our wedding due to COVID, know that we understand and look forward to celebrating with you all in other ways soon.
Yes. At this time, all non-Guatemalans traveling to Guatemala need to show a negative PCR or Antigen test taken within 72 hours of departure -- in addition to your vaccine card -- to enter the country. Please continue to check the relevant government and travel sites to confirm COVID testing requirements as we approach the date of the wedding. We ask that you take your personal measures to travel safely.
Most airlines will ask you to upload a photo of the vaccine card and the negative test to your profile before checking in. At the airport, all guests need to check in for their flights at the counter (even if you just have a carry on). The person at the desk will check your paperwork and then check you in for the flight. In our experience, no one asks to see vaccine cards or tests when you land in the US, unless you are traveling on a non-US passport.
Antigua is technically only 50 minutes from the airport, but that time can double or even triple if the traffic is bad. We would recommend allowing a full 2 hours to get to the airport from Antigua. Note that, while the airport is not super busy, it does take a while to check in for your flight and get through security. Please plan ahead and give yourself more time than you think you need to get to the airport and through security.
Most airlines ask you to upload your travel documents to their website before arriving at the airport (passport, vaccine card, negative test). You should expect that the airline will not let you check in online and require you to go through the airport check in line and be manually checked in, even if you just have a carry one. Once you are in the airport, there are a variety of restaurants, bars, and duty free shops where you can pick up some of Guatemala's famous coffee and Zacapa!
Leading up to the wedding, you can reach out to Nicolette or Alejandro directly. We will update this page with more FAQs as they arise. For the actual wedding weekend, our wedding planner will be the main point of contact.
