We are lovers of American history, and Washington DC has held a special place in Nicole’s heart since she was young. For those of you who have never been to DC before, you’re in for a treat. The National Mall is the 2 mile long walkable central park of the city, framing the Washington Monument, with the Capitol on one end, and the Lincoln Memorial on the other. Lining the outer edges of the National Mall are the world famous Smithsonian Museums. My (Nicole’s) personal favorites are the National Museum of Natural History and the National Museum of American History. Please keep in mind that all areas of the National Mall and Memorial Parks, including the landscaped park areas and most monuments and memorials, are free to the public (and who doesn’t love FREE!?).
The wedding party and its affiliates will be staying in Leesburg, Virginia. Founded in 1758, Leesburg is situated 33 miles northwest of Washington DC in Fox Hunting Country (don’t worry, they don’t use real foxes anymore). It has a gorgeous historic downtown and over 50 wineries in the surrounding area. Address listed takes you to the heart of downtown, but we would suggest checking out places right in the town’s back door such as Morven Park, the historic Balls Bluff Battlefield, the Leesburg Animal Park, Potomac River tubing, and Oatlands Gardens. Tally Ho! *NOTE: we provided hotel listings both in Leesburg and Washington DC depending on your preferences.
