The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (Welsh pronunciation: [ˌpɔntkəˈsəɬtɛ]; Welsh: Traphont Ddŵr Pontcysyllte) is a navigable aqueduct that carries the Llangollen Canal across the River Dee in the Vale of Llangollen in northeast Wales. The18-arched stone and cast iron structure is for use by narrowboats and was completed in 1805. Tom and I visited here in 2018 when we spent Christmas in the UK. I thought it was so cool and the views are amazing!
Per their website, the castle was first built around the year 1090-1100. It went back and fourth between English and Welsh control. The 1200’s is when they spent the most time strengthening and adding to the construction. This is one of the first places I saw once Tom and I finally got to Shropshire.
Beautiful little mountain town of Llangollen. Has stunning walks up the hills, or alongside the the River. The town itself has plenty of character. This is where Tom frequently goes to when he’s home. The Corn Mill pub is definitely worth a visit for a pint and food.
This link provided will inform you really well. This is one of Our favourite places to go shopping and checking out the history from when the romans came and did their thing, invade. Plenty to do here. Walk alongside the river, walk the castle walls around the town. Shop, eat, drink. Take your pick. So many choices. A favourite of ours is “The Botanist”.
