Steven and Nicole first crossed paths in the fall of 2023 while playing Friday Night Soccer with the Prince of Peace Catholic Church Young Adult group, though they didn’t actually talk one-on-one until August 2024. After a group of Catholic young adults went to an FC Dallas game, everyone headed to the karaoke room at Sidecar Social; the moment Nicole finally got her chance to talk to the cute, slightly quirky guy she’d always noticed on the field. During their conversation, Steven mentioned he liked Coldplay’s “Adventure of a Lifetime,” but he had zero intention of singing it; unless someone was willing to dance like the monkeys in the music video. Naturally, Nicole queued it up anyway and tried her best to dance along! Neither of them knew they were about to kick off an adventure of their own! In early 2025, both Steven and Nicole returned to Friday Night Soccer. One evening after a game, a group went to The Irishman pub for food and drinks. As the night wound down, Steven decided to head out... until Nicole literally pulled him back inside to join the group playing pool. That bold tug grabbed his attention in more ways than one. About a month later, Cupid showed up in the form of Fermin Ruiz. Nicole was already good friends with Fermin, and Fermin also knew Steven through Bible study. After getting to know Steven better, he realized Steven’s personality would match perfectly with Nicole’s energetic “woo-girl” charm (spoiler: he was absolutely right). He kept inviting them to different events, creating plenty of opportunities for them to cross paths. It wasn’t until a happy hour that Steven and Nicole finally had a real, uninterrupted conversation. A little texting, a little flirting, and the next week both of them showed up to soccer with freshly injured knees (hurt just days apart) and still sat on the bench talking. Then, after one last-minute decision by Steven to get out of bed and show up to the Catholic Young Adult event at Truck Yard where Nicole was, he finally asked her out. They continued seeing each other in group settings until their first official date at 3 Nations Brewing, the perfect spot for two beer lovers. At one point that night, they both admitted the date felt different: unusually peaceful, easy, and right. When you know, you know. Now, here they are; excited, grateful, and ready to begin their greatest Adventure of a Lifetime together.
