A popular and iconic trail in Durango, Animas Mountain has spectacular views and the main loop is easy to follow. The loop is a lollipop heading in a counter-clockwise direction. Ride/hike up the trail for a few hundred yards from the parking area and take a right at the first trail junction. Keep taking rights to follow the loop in a counter-clockwise direction.
A must do for your first time in Durango. The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad winds through spectacular and breathtaking canyons in the remote wilderness of San Juan National Forest. Experience the same tracks that miners, cowboys, and settlers of the Old West took. We personally recommend booking the train one way and the shuttle the other.
