Nicole and I first met when we attended the same private elementary school when we were both around 7 or 8 years old. Nicole blushes and will definitely roll her eyes, when I mention that she was my first crush! Her and I eventually, went on to different middle schools, high schools, colleges but we’d wish each other the annual “Happy Birthday” on Facebook. Eventually, a couple of years after I’d moved back to Boston from New York, right after new year’s - I saw Nicole’s picture, and was awestruck how beautiful she was and saw her birthday was coming up – per tradition I sent Nicole a message wishing her a “Happy Birthday, New Year” and subtly motioned that “we should grab a drink and catch up.” Finally, after about six weeks, Nicole messaged back agreeing to grab a drink! I had planned to start the night with drinks, head to an art gallery, which had free drinks, and if that went well we would grab dinner. I remember being nervous as I walked to the bar, thinking how has Nicole been in 20 years since I last saw her, will she even recognize me, will I recognize her? I remember getting to the bar slightly early to grab some seat, and ordered a beer and an elderflower champagne drink for Nicole who mentioned that she was going to be 15 minutes late. I eagerly kept looking at the entrance, and was drawn to a familiar face, which smiled at me once our eyes met, and gave me a hug. We talked for hours, eventually going to the art gallery, and dinner – but we both didn’t want the date to end ultimately our first date lasted 3 days....
I asked Nicole why it took so long to respond to my original message and she responded, "well Rono, I was just hoping you might suck less than the people I have been dating. Also you are aesthetically pleasing to my eyes”. Although it bothers me when she says that (and it is such an odd thing to say but she’s weird which is one of the many reasons I love her) I’m glad that she took a chance on me. She has been loving, and surprisingly patient. For those of you who know my Nicole - she’s not always the most patient person. She is however, a fierce lover and puts all her efforts in when she cares about a person and will do anything it takes to make sure that they know they are loved. I cannot wait to marry her and am so grateful she said yes to becoming my wife!
