The best place to find sea turtles in Argostoli is in the Koutavos Lagoon, in particular along the harbour by the fishing boats. Wherever you see a crowd gathering is where you will be able to see, up close and personal, one or two or even three giant sea turtles at a time. You must take transport to reach Argostoli from Skala, either by renting a car or taking the public bus.

Fascinating Melissani Lake is one of the most beautiful sites in Kefalonia. In 1963 a short tunnel was created to give visitors access to the underground lake. Rowing boats are waiting for you when you reach the lake at the end of the tunnel. By boat you will be taken over the lake to the closed part of the cave. The water is so clear that you can see the ground even at its highest depth of 30 metres. Keep an eye out for eels in the lake. Please note, a vehicle is needed to visit this site.
Myrtos Beach stretches out in a long semi-circle along the coastline of Kefalonia. As the beach is flanked by huge white cliffs and made of stones from marble, it creates a stunning contrast against the azure sea. The beach’s beauty, scale, and calm water make it a popular spot for visitors to the island. You can only reach this area by car and please be aware that parking is next to impossible, particularly in August. But the view from atop is well worth the visit.
