We first met after working a shift at Cairns Amateurs in 2016. We had both finished a gruelling day of work and I was told the person giving me a lift home would be Nicole. I didn’t know who she was then, but from that night on, I knew I would never forget her. After exchanging phone numbers that night (somehow, we both got each other’s numbers wrong) we said goodbye. And I didn’t see her again until next year. December 2017 bought me to work at an event where our paths crossed again. I recognised her immediately. An hour after Nicole was sent home for the night, I went downstairs form my break. What I didn’t know was that she was waiting for me. I sat down at a different table to her, so she got up and sat next to me. My stupid self then got up and moved seats. After she got up again to sit next to me, I figured I would make a chivalrous move. I offered her a prawn. After respectfully declining, we chatted until my break was finished. So as to not lose each other’s contact details again, we added each other on Facebook, and have been inseparable since. That night we spoke on the phone for 3 hours (which if you have ever spoken to me on the phone before, you will know its harder than getting blood from stone). For the next week straight, we spoke to each other for 7 hours a night. By this stage, we had been flirting a bit, but I am a bad flirt, because Nicole asked if we were flirting. To which I responded, ‘I sure as hell hope so’. And so we went on our first date, which started horribly. I am much more awkward in person than I am online. But I was oblivious to how bad it was going. When we got home, Nicole said I can jump in the pool with her or I can go home. So I did the smartest thing I’ve ever done. I jumped in the pool. That pool broke the ice perfectly. She is my best friend and I can’t imagine my life without her.
