Nicole will tell you she had a feeling she was going to meet someone special when she moved to Milwaukee for graduate school. Turns out, she was right as Ben happened to be her first date there. Upon moving to Milwaukee, Nicole decided to download Hinge, an online dating app. She figured it was a good way to meet people, but also a good way to get recommendations for good restaurants and bars. Ben moved to Milwaukee for undergrad at Marquette in 2010 and has been there since, so he knew the good places for everything. He replied to one of Nicole’s prompts with,“I know all the best spots, try me.” It was going to be 75 and sunny on the coming Sunday, so Ben invited Nicole for a Sunday day drink at one of his favorite spots. Our story doesn’t quite end there because of course, that would be too simple. Truth be told, Nicole backed out with an excuse of staying at her friend's lake house to enjoy the nice weather (In reality, she was just too tired to go). She thought it was a good excuse, but Ben saw right through it. They tried to reschedule a few times, but with Nicole’s night classes and already set plans, they weren’t destined to meet quite yet. One time, Nicole tried to set up a date, but Ben was about to jet-set over to Europe for a week and a half. Knowing how dating apps usually work, this could have been it, but this adventure played a big role in how they ended up meeting. On his trip, Ben decided to follow Nicole on Instagram, and Nicole was able to follow Ben’s adventures watching an Arsenal soccer game, drinking at Oktoberfest and a road trip driving through the beautiful Swiss Alps. When he came back, they finally agreed to meet up for rooftop drinks at The Outsider on October 8th, 2019 . Nicole remembers being nervous for her first date in Milwaukee, but she knew she could talk to anyone about traveling and wanted to hear more about his trip. They ended up talking for hours about many things, including their love of travel. Within a month of their first date, they had booked their first trip together to Spain for March 2020. And the rest is history.
