How We Met

As many of you know, I'm a competitive person. I missed competing and playing soccer so I reached out to a friend to see if she had been playing soccer and if they needed an extra player. Low and behold there was room for one more! I showed up that Sunday and scored about 12 goals (maybe I'm slightly exaggerating). After about two months of playing on the team, Nico finally got the courage to text me....or maybe I text him...either way after a few weeks of talking outside of Soccer Sundays, he finally asked me on a date. We had our first date on March 25th, 2016. Nico came over after work to pick me up from my house. We went to dinner and got to know each other of a more personal level than our soccer Sundays. We planned on only doing dinner but I guess we kinda liked each other because we ended up hanging out at my house talking and then going out to the movies. I'm still questioning if he suggested the movie to hang out longer, or because he wanted to sit in silence. Either way he must have liked me a little because we kept hanging out every weekend after that. Each time we hung out it was like we had known each other forever, we understood each other, and we clicked. Even though we felt like we had a connection, I kept questioning if he really even liked me. Yes, we hung out every weekend, but the damn boy took FOUR WEEKS to even KISS me. Talk about messing with my mind. We still joke about how slow he was to make a move. He calls it "waiting for his set". As our relationship slowly evolved, we realized how much we had in common, and how many friends we had in common. It was crazy that we had not crossed paths before playing indoor soccer. My co-workers have known Nico for years playing sports (volleyball, kickball, softball). Little did I know that our circle of friends overlapped. Both of us were just never at the same events to meet, before playing soccer. Coincidence or fate, we are lucky that we found each other and make each other as happy as we do.

How He Asked

Prior to the week of Thanksgiving Nico and I took a trip to the Oregon Coast for a vacation. We grabbed brochures at the hotel's check in desk to help us decide the type of adventures we would have. We decided to go hiking in the morning at Drift Creek Falls which was highly recommended. Since Sunday was supposed to be a sunny day we decided we would hike first thing in the morning. We woke up Sunday and headed for the trail head. It was a short three mile hike with gorgeous views. As we got to the suspension bridge we stopped and took pictures of the gorgeous waterfall that was right below. We crossed the bridge and walked further down towards the waterfall. When we got to one of the view points Nico and I started taking more pictures. Shortly after we were taking in the breathtaking views, Nico grabbed my hand and got down on one knee. To be honest....I'm not even sure what he said...all I know is I said yes with the biggest grin and happy tears filling my eyes. We hiked back out of the falls and the whole time I complained saying my hand was too heavy to continue, my hand was "on ice" and I needed gloves because I was too cold. Nico laughed at one or two of my jokes but I think about 1 mile back towards the car he was already regretting asking. On our way back towards town in the car I asked Nico what he had said when he got down on one knee. I thought he had said "I'm ready to get this over with, I love you with all my heart Kaylynn Marie Winwood, will you marry me?". He laughed at me and said I needed to get my hearing checked because he said "I'm too excited to wait any longer, I love you with all my heart Kaylynn Marie Winwood, will you marry me?" Either way, I said yes, and we get to spend the rest of our lives misconstruing everything that we say to each other.
