It was the first week of college at Rice University. They were both attending a new student event when Emile spied Nick from across the room and declared that he would be hers. Nick asked for her number and she gave it to him. About a month later, at an 80s themed party, they again caught each other's eyes and ended up dancing together. When Nick asked for her number again, Emile had to remind him that he already had it! They dated briefly during their freshman year, but ended up just being good friends. During a warm evening in the early spring of their junior year, Nick was in a deep personal discussion with one of his close friends who informed him that, similar to many sitcoms, it was really only he and Emile who didn't realize they were supposed to end up together. Nick immediately rushed to ask Emile to get Thai food, and the rest is history.
Early in August, Nick informed Emile that he had hid 13 ring boxes around their apartment for her to find, one of which housed the true ring. The hiding spaces ranged in difficulties and eventually Nick had to provide a couple clues to find the remaining few. Emile was only able to find 12 of the 13 boxes. The missing box was #5, her favorite number. For labor day weekend, Nick and Emile rented a beach house in Galveston with several of their close friends. Nick sent Emile out to the beach to do a photoshoot while he secretly set up his proposal. When Emile got back to the house, she found a scroll with the date "August 2012" (when they first met) surrounded by pink candles. Nick led Emile slowly from friend to friend, each person holding a different scroll with a significant date from their relationship. When Emile arrived at the final circle of candles, she saw Ryan (her brother) and Brenna (his girlfriend) holding the final scroll (Nick had flown them in for the proposal in secret)! Brenna then gave Emile the final ring box, number 5, with a note in it that said "turn around." When she did, Nick was on his knee and he finally revealed the REAL final (14th) ring box - shaped like a heart. Of course, she said yes. We are so excited to celebrate this next step of our lives with you!
