Our first date in 11/2019 was at the Portland Audubon Society Art Festival. When he asked if I was interested in going, I thought, "Well I have never done that before. I will check it out and at least give him creativity points." Turns out he was not a crazy bird guy! We walked around the Pearl District for a couple hours talking and working on our Fitbit steps. I loved his passion for his family and willingness to be spontaneous with my crazy schedule. The next few months were filled with Portland Trailblazers games and hikes on the weekends. He quickly became a cat lover, learned how to coupon and win free stuff. Our last big event before the COVID19 quarantine was the Nike Sneaker Ball. You may think he is quiet and shy at first, but don't let him fool you! He loves the dance floor!
Due to the pandemic we were not able to travel to Boise for Christmas. My plan was to ask her parents for their blessing during that trip. Her mother ended up visiting a few days after Christmas where I took the opportunity. I nervously asked Lisa if "she'd be okay" with me asking Alyssa to marry me. With her help I selected a ring and starting thinking of how I would propose. I called her father soon after, who informed me he was surprised and needed a few days to let the news settle in. Two weeks before I proposed we had gone skiing with friends and were enthusiastic about heading up to the mountain again. I called my friend and asked if he would come with us cross country skiing, and that I would be asking for Alyssa's hand during the trip. He mentioned that if she said no it would be an awkward ride home. I told him that "Cowboys will be cowboys." We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day on Mt. Hood. We found a spot with a good view of the peak, I bent down on one knee, and she said yes.
This has been a tough year, we understand that there is hesitation and concern about having a big wedding right now. We are asking EVERYONE attending to be vaccinated. If you cannot make it, don't feel comfortable traveling, or choose not to get vaccinated by October, there will be a virtual option to view the ceremony. Safety is a top concern.
We had to limit the attendance for the reception, however kids are welcome to the ceremony at Holy Apostles. The church is large and can accomodate more people.
