Getting to Nantucket Nantucket is an Island 28 miles out to sea and is accessible by ferry or plane. Ferry Details: Departing from Hyannis, MA there are two high-speed ferry companies, Steamship Authority and Hyline Cruises. Each ferry takes approximately 1 hour port-to-port. In addition, if you miss the high-speed ferry, there is a car ferry that takes approximately two hours port-to-port. The car ferry schedule is variable.
