How They Met

Nick saw Kathrine while teaching a Sunday School lesson in the Newport YSA ward. Kathrine thought Nick was cute, but Nick announced in the lesson that he was 31, so she didn't think she had a chance because she was so much younger than him. Kathrine left early from class, so Nick asked a mutual friend for her number. Nick left Kathrine a voicemail asking if they could meet for lunch that week. Without stalking on social media or really know anything about each other they met for lunch that Friday at Mendocino Farms. Lunch went great and they hit it off! Nick left intrigued and Kathrine left feeling very hopeful about their future. The relationship progressed slowly at first. There were lots of Disneyland Trips and Game Nights, and 6 weeks later they FINALLY kissed! 14 months later, they are getting hitched!

Proposal Story

Nick and Kathrine had been talking marriage for a while, so surprising Kat was going to be difficult. With the help of Kathrine's best friend, Hannah, Nick thought of the perfect plan. Nick conveniently had a full day of activities that Kathrine couldn't be involved in. Kathrine was told to meet a friend to pick up a dress Hannah said she needed at the gazebo overlooking Three Arch Bay in Laguna Beach. Nick had decorated the gazebo with photos of them, strung twinkle lights, bought a rug for their future home to stand on, picked up flowers, had candles all over and got a "Hey Kat, want to get married?" sign. Kathrine thought she was going to know exactly when her proposal was going to happen, so when she first saw the gazebo she thought to herself "How cute someone is getting engaged here!" and did not even realize the pictures were of herself until Nick came up from the stairs with his guitar. Nick sang the sweetest song while Kathrine struggled to figure out what to do with her hands. She was completely surprised and so so happy. Nick finished the song, got on his knee with the prettiest ring, and she said YES!
