Nick and Kat

Nick and Kat met like any classic romantic story...on Tinder! They both had the app just for fun and one night, Kat's friend, Jenny, took her phone and started swiping on everyone she saw. She showed Kat the profile of this guy on a rock and she thought, "Yeah he looks fun," and gave the green light. Months later, Kat got the notification that she got a match. She went and checked the profile and recognized the picture - something that rarely happens after months on a dating app. Kat messaged first and got Nick's number that night. From that moment on they haven't stopped talking!

The Beginning

Wanna come look at dogs with me?

After talking for a month, Kat finally asked Nick if they wanted to meet up. They agreed on meeting at the Boston Common to dog watch, and eventually ended up at the New England Aquarium. They spent so much time just talking that Nick ended up being an hour and a half late to work! The second date took place at the same place the first started, the Boston Common. The date lasted 9 hours and all they did was talk. They both knew there was something special and they didn't want to leave it. Flash forward to December 2016 Nick and Kat made plans to go to an animal shelter for a date (the shelter they eventually adopted their second cat, Butter!). Kat drove and Nick had some questionable Chinese food for lunch. After arriving home (and Nick getting sick a few times), Nick romantically asked, "So we dating or what?".

The Proposal

November 19th 2022

November 2022 Nick and Kat plan a trip up to Lincoln, NH, a place they frequented since the beginning. Nick was being very specific about where they were going that weekend and Kat definitely had her suspicions. There's a trail among the Kancamangus highway that they found years ago and try to hike every time they go up there. It's a quarter mile long and opens up to this big clearing in the mountains where you are surrounded by the White Mountains on all sides. The two of them take this hike as often as they can, and when they can find the trail, have never seen a fellow hiker on the trail. They named the trail the "Nick and Kat trail" because it truly feels like a place just for them. On this particular day, they could not find the trail entrance and ended up passing it three times. Eventually they found the entrance and began their small hike. The whole way up, Kat could hear Nick wrestling with something in his pocket. The suspicions only grew stronger but she just went along with it. Once they reached the end of the trail, Nick, in his sneaky Nick fashion, pointed to the other side of the clearing and shouted, "Look over there for a minute!". Kat knew instantly what was about to happen. After fumbling with his pocket for what seemed like forever, Nick finally told Kat to turn around where she found him on one knee with a sour cherry ring pop in his hand. He called back to the day they became official and asked, "So, we getting married or what?".

The Cats

Professor Pickles, Butter, and Toast

Nick had ignited Kat's love for cats. When Nick and Kat first moved in together Kat decided she wanted a cat and took Nick along for the ride. This is when they met their first cat, Professor Pickles. Pickles provided Nick and cat with a lot of love and snuggles with their three and a half years together. December 2022 Pickles sadly passed away but his silly spirit lives on. Butter was Nick and Kat's second cat. Once they upgraded from their one bedroom to a two bedroom in the thick of the pandemic, they decided it would lift their spirits to have another cat in the home. Kat went to the shelter alone to look at what cats they had, with plans to come back with Nick. Kat then fell in love with a snuggly orange tabby cat that she instantly adopted and have loved ever since. Shortly after Pickles passed away Nick and Kat knew they needed a second cat in the home. Several trips to several shelters and constant searching for any available cat lead Nick and Kat to a tiny animal shelter in Marblehead, MA where they met their third cat Toast. Slow to warm up, Toast has easily become another snuggly, yet chaotic presence in their lives. It's become clear that whatever cat Nick and Kat end up with, they are going to have a big personality. All three cats hold such a special place in Nick and Kat's hearts. Their story is truly not complete without their special furry babies.
