The Proposal

07/31/2020

In 2018, we decided to buy our first home. We had almost nothing. Though Nova had an entire bedroom filled with furniture, toys, and a new bed, the rest of the home was bare. Still we were so proud of our new-found commitment. The first year was hard. I don't say that lightly. We were adjusting to being a new full-time family in one space, burnt dinners, tears of struggling to understand one another, and crazy work schedules. But we knew that if any family could get through it, it was ours. We worked so hard every single day. Fast-forward to July 2020. Empty rooms are now filled with furniture, those bare walls are covered in our family pictures, and so many memories have been made. We even got a family pet and named him Mac. My Birthday was coming up. I was struggling to turn 27. Nick decided to throw a small family BBQ. Now, before I get to the big event I must admit that I had a small gut feeling that Nick was going to ask the big question but when he was angered by the shipping time of my birthday present from Amazon, I just knew he wasn't. I was hurt and disappointed as any woman would be. Though, I was still a little bitter I was excited to see my loved ones. Nick made amazing food, our daughter and nieces were running around playing and laughing, and my family was there. Nick decides to tell me he's got a little payback for me and brings out a piñata. Something I had done on his 27th birthday to help him cope with “getting old”. I accepted the blindfold proudly. I took my first swing and missed. "That's cheating!" screamed 3 tiny voices. He had pulled the rope on the piñata. I get ready to swing again and hear “help me out here”. I take the blindfold off and there he was on one knee. I cried but never said yes. I decided to answer his long-awaited question with "I've been so mad at you today” as tears flooded my face. Later I asked him why he chose our front yard to propose and his response was simple "this house isn't a home without you".

For all the days along the way
