How we met:

This is Nick's favorite story to tell, and you'll see why... we met at work at Target! I was Nick's boss (yeah... an HR nightmare) and we became fast friends from Nick's first shift. Between friendly banter at work and spending occasional lunch breaks together (and with the help of our mutual friend Caleb) our friendship solidified. Nick quickly became both my best friend and my favorite person to talk to. Six months later we came to our senses (through Nick trying to kiss me... and being turned down) and went on our first date at a waffles restaurant! Almost 6 years later, we're still besties but kiss a lot more often.

How we got engaged:

It was May of 2020 and Kaity and I were 3.5 years into dating. As with many things, Kaity was being stubborn for our proposal. It was immediately after the first lockdown and we had been stuck inside unexpectedly for 3 weeks, so times were stressful. To her benefit, Kaity also had a pretty tough start to her day at work as well. She always jokes I only do things on "Nick time", so of course I knew it was the perfect day to get engaged. I planned a date for us to get out of our apartment and walk Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis. As a surprise, I hired a photographer friend to meet us at a local park and hide to capture the proposal. Kaity and I took our time walking the bridge and enjoying the first warm day of spring. As we approached the hill the photographer was on, I suggested we climb up it. Of course Kaity had been here previously with friends and insisted we pass because "I've been up there and there isn't anything cool." At this point I had to walk the line of "pressure her up the hill" and "act casual so she doesn't know something is up." Eventually after a few words (urges) of encouragement and reminders of the word compromise, I finally sold her on going half way up. I told Kaity to pose for a polaroid picture, but instead of the camera, I pulled out a ring out of my backpack. I spun around, got on a knee, and realized I had completely frozen on what to say, so all I could muster was "me love you" like a caveman. (not literally but almost) Thankfully Kaity wasn't being stubborn anymore and she said yes. An engagement story that we will both never forget!
